I work at Telecom Bayfair and am more than happy to do this for anyone, infact I always do it as I've seen way to many hack jobs. Screen protectors are easy as to put on once you've done a few and have technique :)

I've brought mine from the website dealextreme.com, they are only a couple of dollars each including free postage.  The ones that i have acquired have been awesome.
The only problem is that you have to wait for a week or two for it to arrive.

jtan: Just spent the better part of an hour installing a screen protector on my new 4S.. Back is looking very good, front has a few micro bubbles but hopefully they'll disappear overnight.. Got mine off TradeMe, never used it before so can't comment on it just yet - However I believe that Telecom are selling protectors for $10 inshore otherwise.

During the launch on Friday morning I watched a few screen protectors being put on.  If it were me I would get a protector and ask for it to be put on while you're there.  As I believe they are only $10 (but I could be wrong so don't quote me on it) and for the sake of a few dollars and a few bubbles it's worth asking if you can find one of the retail folks who I am sure has done it a few times could do it for you.  He certainly made it look easy.  Personally I have tried to install one on my old phone and made a real hack job of it.  Second time round it was much better :)

Again these are my own views and experiences.  But for a few dollars and for the time spent mucking around if you haven't ever done it before as there certainly is a trick to installing the covers well and bubble/dust free..... why wouldn't you just buy it and get it put on the phone while you wait if you're buying it from a Telecom retail store?

Didn't actually know that the guys at the Telecom store did it, else I would have definitely chose that option. I'd already bought my screen protector a week in advance in anticipation of buying my phone, so gave it a go today (Didn't take the stock plastic covers off until I was about to apply the protectors, and because the plastic covers the earpiece was rather entertaining when friends called as I could barely hear them) :D

Anyhow, it was a BestSkinEver screen protector off TradeMe, quality seemed OK, just difficult to put on without getting dust under it (or small pieces of my cleaning cloth!)

Hmm, sounds like you got one for an iPod touch rather than an iPhone.  Those made for the phone have the necessary holes for the speaker and front facing camera.

I think the guy was saying that he had the original cover on still which was covering it, which I believe to be correct.

Ive done it before, but the 2 pack I tried wasnt quality. The idea is you peel on the protector while it still has the rigid backing, but the peeloffs didnt do that, the sticker just peeled off, leaving me to work with the limp protector, which despite using a creditcard to smooth it out, still left bubbles, many of them. The Gecko I put on my iPhone 4 had a half peeloff, that allowed lining up to be easier, and the rigid backing allowed bubblefree application. As Paul said, get an expert to apply it, and with a quality protector. My ones may have been ok for quality, but the means wasn't.

I find the the Gecko on my 4, gets greasy looking quickly. The glass on my 4S doesnt much at all. I may leave it naked, as I transport it in a passport zipcase, and don't carry in pockets with other stuff. The glass is a nicer feel too.

Siri works well, in Oz Engrish. Did not recognise Kirsty, but does now, does it learn? While it is a nice gimmick, and a bit O fun, it will also be productive, so I will certainly make use of Google to get the tips and tricks to maximise that. Battery usage seems same as 4. The 4S is faster, more snappier.

One thing I love about Apple is integration. As I did with my impulse iPad2 purchase recently, backed the 4 up, added 4S, restored from backup, and I soon had my 4S identical to the 4. Nice to see 32.4Gb free now too.

Yes, it is my understanding that Siri learns. Its probably quite similar to the auto-correct learning words.

LennonNZ: Remember .. 90% of iPhone 4 cases won't fit on an iPhone 4S.

It depends on what type of case you prefer. My preference is for slip in/slip out style pouches as I don't like using my device while it's inside a case, so the change in the side button placement won't matter.

tdgeek: codyc1515 whats the latest on your courier?

I'd say its safe to put this here so I will. The first one is a game I ordered from FirstIn, Deus Ex: Human Revolution (to Feilding) and the second one is my White 32GB iPhone 4S (to Palmerston). I'm still waiting on both even though they both had overnight courier. They should both arrive this Monday aka. tomorrow or else I'm gonna be asking for a refund for overnight couriering because there is no point in paying for it if they aren't actually going to do it, may as well have got the ordinary shipping then. Here is the link to track them both: http://trackandtrace.courierpost.co.nz/search/3546340014757101FEI003JS_00094010521015904436

Check the Jelly Cases that Telecom has. The have a nice feel. I will continue to use my current 4 case, which is like a black bumper but with a nice polished steel type of back. So, it looks like my old phone.

But note that you are likely to need to snip a little of material where the audio mute switch is, maybe 2 - 3 mm.

Out of interest why do people still use screen protectors with gorilla glass? I've yet to see a single screen protector that doesn't affect the optical quality of a screen and/or the usability in bright conditions, and all of them increase the friction meaking it harder to quickly move your fingers, and also attract grease.

I'm by no means careful with my phone, and used to find plastic screens such as those on former Nokia's would be completely scratched within ~3 months without the use of a screen protector. With my last 2 gorilla glass phones the exact same use has resulted in no noticeable marks on the screens.

I'd personally never bother with a screen protector on a gorilla glass phone, and I'd also never buy another phone that didn't have gorilla glass. The only caveat of it is that impact damage will completely trash a gorilla glass screen.
