Question - if we change from an iPhone 3g to the iPhone 4 - what happens to the apps on the 3g device? Can we swap them to the new device or do we have to pay for them all over again?

Why yes indeed I did!

And yes, it's hard to know where the stock will go (I've just seen it all out in the warehouse, several thousand iPads.... sigh, all allocated of course, none available for staff!)

Cheers,
Joseph.

:p any iphone4's hanging around?

Before you sell off your 3g phone or somthing, sync it to iTunes. When you get the iPhone 4, just set it up with the previously backed up copy in iTunes. Pretty straight forward.

Before selling off old iPhone, be prepared to do a (at least) 4-hours long complete clean wipe!

Or if you are a mug like me and have Mobileme, i think the remote wipe feature does the same thing as the one on the phone.

No. Apps form part of your library, and your library doesn't care what device you are using. Hit the sync button, and unless you specify otherwise, all compatible apps will go to whatever device is plugged in.

Still light on the details, but looks like it's been confirmed by Vodafone to go on sale next Friday:

I had that a few days ago, and ive got a 3g, still works fine i checked and the setting are the same.

As for guy guy above and transferring apps on the Iphone 4. Ive forgotten to sync mine loads ( 3g) and even if i go to the app store on the phone, and click BUY on the app i know ive had before. It comes up with a message saying its FREE because you've downloaded it before.

Even ones, that came out free, and you now have to pay for i dont, because i got it when it was free.

Should be the same on the new phone. i hope.

I got an email from VF last week (16 July) about the micro sims, the last line says...

What's next?

We will be in contact again next week to give you more info on pricing for the iPhone 4 and when it will be available in New Zealand.

By my calculations they have till the end of today (OK sunday if they work weekends) to give us a price.

VF haven't even confirmed they will have them on the 30th.  So much for registering your interest and getting updates.

Interesting maths comparison - I believe the only other countries with released iPads and unlocked iPhone 4s are the UK and France?
In the UK Apple store: the basic iPhone 4 is 19% more expensive than the basic iPad.
In the French Apple store: the basic iPhone 4 is 26% more expensive than the basic iPad.

If that holds here then price should be $999 for the 16Gb (19% more is $950, 25% more is $1,000).

Fail to see why the differential should be greater here than anywhere else?

@garethw could be because of economics? like nz is not a big of a market. we can buy the large volumes that france and uk can? my theory anyway.

and yes! vodafone _shud_ send everyone an email sometime today "officially" confirming the iphone 4. when they said that about the microsim email it was "in the next week" exactly on the friday of last week right? logic says today it will be :)

i hope the stores open early at least haha

Yeah but I'm not comparing prices between countries - I'm comparing prices between products within the same country. If the spread in other countries is 19-25% then there's no reason for a much greater spread in our country?

So do I! Hey Vodafone, want to open the Queen Street store early for us liner-upperers? Laughing
