Thought it was a fault, turns out it is deliberate. Why Apple, why?

Why even bother having an on/off toggle - just for show obviously.

What if you don't want or need either of those radios on to save power? Clearly Apple knows better then their customers.

Can obviously still turn it off via settings, but then begs the question why bother including it in the Control Centre. We will assimilate!!!

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

I have noticed that enabling airplane mode, it also doesn't disable bluetooth, as that is still green. I wonder if it also has bugs. It is disappointing that none of this is configurable.

Notice that the podcast app has also been butchered, and it is now so confusing to use.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that. I hate it how it shows what I've added to my queue, and then after that there is a whole lot of random stuff that I can't remove.

Until 5am in morning, according to article at 5am everything turns back on again, maybe airplane mode may be more effective, just then it's over kill as lose calls and texts.

I have tried a lot of the third party ones, and none were as good as the previous version of the podcast app. Companies seem to dumb apps down. Even the new app store isn't great companies to the previous one, where you now have these large cards filling up the screen that you have to scroll past. I am wondering if it is going to affect app developers getting their apps out there.

The way I read that is that if you use the Control Centre to turn these off (which it actually doesn't) it will remain connected to any existing devices, but will not search or connect with new ones. Upon reaching 5am or when re-starting, the device will override your choice and automatically turn on the search and connect functions again. If you turn these off in the settings however they will remain off (which has been my experience)

If only they could invent a mechanism that allows headphones to connect manually with the device...

I hope they change this back to how it use to be, it's annoying, this is the first time ever I have had mixed feelings about a IOS update.

To be fair in Control Centre is does actually say Not Connected if you turn off the BT button. It doesn't say BT Off or anything. So I guess this is mainly a problem for people who come from iOS pre-11 and expect a certain behaviour with those buttons. With new users it's just the norm.

Not defending the change though, I think it's stupid. For someone like my wife who has a BT enabled key to get into her workplace, she needs BT off otherwise the key battery keeps getting drained by the phone's BT. Don't ask me why, it's a bad design on the key. So now when she gets out of the car (where phone was BT connected) it's a lengthier process to turn BT off so her key isn't impacted. If she forgets.... well I'll be the one getting the call to drop off the spare key I imagine.

This does make a lot of sense though - especially when most people who are listening to music on newer devices will be using Bluetooth headphones.

I'd be surprised if many (if any) airlines still prohibited Bluetooth.

It does disconnect from any Wifi network for me - if I want to use mobile data rather than work’s Wifi I can.

If the Bluetooth radio in this passive state is detectable I bet a few councils will be rejoicing with the extra tradfic flow stats now available.
