The relevant question is: "Are there any Telecom customers left to get iPhone on the XT network?"

Things are only as complicated as you want them to be!!

This is rethorical question - even cynical. Of course there are customers on XT.

You really shouldn't post if you don't know what you're talking about. They aren't selling the iPhone, nor supporting or servicing it. They are essentially sourcing them from Apple/Vodafone for their customers slightly more directly than before.

What's this you're saying about Jailbreaking? Care to explain why exactly they would need to be Jailbroken, considering it's A) an unlock that's required to unlock an iPhone and B) the NZ iPhones are factory unlocked? The official App Store has 100% functionality of Jailbroken devices -- I have no idea where you are getting the idea that it wouldn't.

Why not?  Gen-i is an IT company supporting many products and solutions including ones they don't sell. e.g. they were supporting customers BlackBerry on Voda before they got it themselves.

What I mean by supporting is directly servicing or having rights over the device. They cannot sell the iPhone as they don't have a deal with Apple to do so.

Do you mean the Carrier Bundle from iPhonewzealand? A lot of Telecom stores already direct customers on iPhones to us for the bundle to install. I don't see a reason why they can't... apart from that a script has to be run to modify iTunes in order to update it.

wouldn't this be a non official way to make the iPhone work though? carrier bundles are meant to come from iTunes right? does vodafone have exclusive rights to the iPhone in NZ? Has apple not released carrier bundles for 2degrees,telstra,black and white,xt?

Says who?

I've got a jailbroken phone and I've bought a tonne of apps off of the app store.

Wouldn't have my phone any other way.

Carrier Bundles are built into the iPhone OS. Custom bundles, like ours, can be added but they are not official.

Vodafone doens't have *exclusive* rights to the iPhone, it's just that Apple and the other Telco's haven't come to an agreement and therefore Vodafone are the only official carrier (that doesn't make them exclusive though).

Apple will only add carrier bundles for the other providers when those providers and Apple reach an agreement and they become official.

Cheers

the thing i don't get about your carrier bundles is why does your custom vodafone carrier bundle say it enables MMS when the latest iPhone firmware already enables MMS?

also if something goes wrong with a person's iPhone after they install a custom carrier bundle, will the iPhone warranty cover the repair?
