Personally, if you are finding YouTube buffering, then your speed sucks. It's kind of baseline absolute minimum that you can expect from ADSL2 (or 1 for that matter)

I wouldnt be happy myself

And my router crashed and rebooted just getting that.  Before you ask, unless every single Orcon branded Gigaset is faulty, I haven't got "that one router" - I'm actually on my third now.

kyanar, 2600b/s downstream on 34dB (300kHz) attenuation is out of wack. You should have near on 3x that speed for that attenuation (ie nearly full ADSL1 speed at least). I would suspect you have wiring issues in your house, although you may have already mentioned that it has been checked, this thread is too long to look back.

CutCutCut: I'm interested to know what exactly was done soundude to help Aaroonas line speed etc?

Interleaving was switched ON.

My line rates and speed have stayed consistant and fast now.

So whether there was something done at orcon which just coincidentally got changed when sounddude changed my Interleaving settings or whether it was directly related to my interleaving - I have no idea.

but it seems to be to youtube specifically. Most other sites that i've been dealing with lately have been working no problems at all (and that includes random streaming also)

Sounddude: In that case its unlikly to be a cabinet issue since the cabinet is not due to 2011.

Try a line isolation test (unplug everything and reboot your router).

if not, log a fault with the Orcon helpdesk and tell them your Modem sync speed is slower than it should be with the current attenuation rates.

Ok did an isolation test.. sync rate stayed the same(around 3.5~4mbps).. just waiting on the reply from the helpdesk now.. been a few days already still no feedback from their end.

Just some youtube or all of it? Most of the youtube content should be coming from a local cache.

Are you using Orcons DNS servers?

My DSL splitter is at the earliest point it can be at (house is old enough to not have an outside demarc point) - and hardwired.  Chorus have played around with the wiring before, and both Chorus and Orcon have ruled out my wiring.  Orcon's line tests indicate that the resistance of the line running to my property is twice what it should be, indicating a major fault.  However, Chorus won't get off their rear and look into it.  They'll constantly either close the job without investigating, or investigate and say "there's definitely a fault, we'll be back tomorrow" then close the job.

Fair enough, what a pain, I take it they have tested out at the pillar and its ok there? if so is it too hard to replace the leadin.

only some.

for example, I can look at an HD video for a movie and it will load perfect.

but if I try HD or even SD for a not well known video, it crawls. and I mean CRAWLLLLLS

I tried assigning orcons DNS to my computer as opposed to my router (192.168.0.1) and it made no difference.

Tested out the pillar?  They ripped it out and replaced it!  They even dug up part of the bottom of the driveway!  Problem is, that was the time they said "there's a major fault here, we'll be back tomorrow" then disappeared off the face of the earth.

yea its a known issue we are working with google on.

I maybe talking out of school here, but we are in the process of building an interconnect with Google in Sydney. This will allow us direct peering with google and will hopefully remove any bottlenecks that exist, which is slowing the not well known videos.

ETA 1st December.

There has been a Vector cut at the Harbour bridge in Auckland. We are currently running on our backup links.

Might I suggest Orcon utilize their "Network Status" page?
