Minh: Okay so on unlimited plan fiber,
Slow P2P - understandable
Gaming Pings spiking - understandable
Streaming videos wait a few minutes to buffer - understandable

Browsing web pages slow as 128k - I don't think any one would accept this

Does anyone here have any legal advice as all these excuses of "not enough bandwidth" "DDOS attacks" from Orcon for the last few months is a bit pathetic.. a few weeks okay but I didn't pay $100 per month for 128k on a fiber plan.

If any one with legal advice on how to get out of this contract please post here or message me, much appreciations.

Call them up negotiate having the ETF wavered due to the lengthy time its taking to have the issue resolved.
Tell the CSR you understand the Ts&C's doesn't grantee 100% service but it doesn't say that it will be unusable for more then 50% of the month.... a 50% SLA is pathetic even for residential standards.

Remember stay calm ranting and raving will only make the CSR be a prick back....
That has worked for me in the past, stay truthful and calm and you will get what you want.

When I was a CSR I was a prick to people who expected things, And people who asked nicely I bent over backwards for.

Just took about 2 minutes to load Google. Need I say more? It seems to be getting worse.

We peer directly with google, with our own southencross bandwidth into Sydney (with heaps of capacity)

Have you logged a ticket with the helpdesk over that issue? Its not the expected behaviour.

I opened a ticket about my abysmal line rates in the Auckland CBD and was told that they'd get back to me in a week after monitoring my line. That was in February. Still waiting. (http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=82&topicid=114623)

I was planning to ring up about my supposed line monitoring this week so maybe I'll bring this up too.

I haven't been able to watch more than 2 minutes of any youtube video at a time today, the connection just gets dropped (or something) and it stops buffering.

Edit: I have to press the share button, copy the URL at a specific timestamp and load that URL to keep watching a video, and often I only get 5 seconds of video play time before having to do it again.

No one on my connection is downloading anything.

some idiot playing with the settings again?

you can get it to play by making use of whatever they've done to enable bursts of traffic from youtube: seek different positions through the video as you can get bursts of 30 to 60 seconds download instantly

Oddly, I played a few LoL games at 6pmish to 7.30, and my pings were greater then ever before (155, compared to 200 "normal" -which is still a hell of a lagg).. Going out now, but i'll check them when I'm back.

I appreciate all the feedback people as you have saved me from possibly much heartache like many of you.

To explain--- I signed up with orcon for the fibre offer, but after reading all the feedback, I have since cancelled.

Currently, I am with slingshot's unlimited plan and all the time I am between 11 - 12 Mb/s. Just tried youtube @ 8.00pm with absolutely no buffering even on 720p hd and that goes for anytime of day/night.

In the meantime, I will sit tight on the unlimited broadband package which I have been on for ages and wait to see what slingshot has to offer on fibre. As I reside in wanganui, orcon is the only provider at present.

Thanks again to you all and may your perseverance reward all of you.
