Something must have happened with Age of Conan (although the issue may not have been with Orcon after all).  For the last 7 days, I have had below 300 ping even during peak times (no 10000ms spikes at all). Strange enough, during peak times if I do a speedtest.net to LA, I get the usual pitiful results.  The AoC servers are in New Jersey.  Fast connection to New Jersey while slow to LA? The plot thickens.

Well, lets put it this way, I've already told them I"m refusing to pay for last months internet. I'll sooner declare bankruptcy than for them to get a single damn cent out of me.

Maybe the Orcon management need to realise that we as customers pay for a service and we bloody well expect that the service is delivered. If that service isn't delivered - I ain't paying.

While refusing to pay your bill is one way, it potentially can result in them suspending your service, referring you to a debt collection service, or putting a black mark on your credit record. There are more constructive and less 'dangerous' of lodging complaints/protesting than simply refusing to pay your bill and having baycorp turn up on your doorstep.

My suggestion to everyone who still hasn't found a resolution to look at these guys. They do say that you do have to make a complaint first, but I suggest having a look anyway.

Guys there is a little thing called the Consumer Gurantee Act.

Hence the muscle I'm going to flex over this issue. I'm happy to meet them half way, but buggered if I am going to hand over $127 for a service when delivered equals that of a $30 service quality.

Yea WoW/Vent stopped lagging at around 12:30 last night, went from disconnects and not being able to be on vent to absolutely rock solid stability. Seems to be the same every night, soon as the torrents slow down, byebye vent/wow stability.

I've been asked by Orcon to wait one more week before changing ISP's so I guess I'll do that... pray they can get their act together but highly doubt it.

After another night of very poor intl performance I've finally given up on Orcon completely and have signed up with another provider. I'm just waiting for my transfer to go through and I can finally be rid of Orcon at last and get some proper broadband.

Am I ever likely to use Orcon again ? Probably not.

Would I ever recommend Orcons services to my clients ? ... Certainly not.

Update:
4 July 2008 I'm stuck with them for the moment as I have to rejoin Telecom and pay a connection fee so I can move my line to some one else B****R!

I'm now on snap, and this is awesome. Really fast, really reliable. I was downloading off the Apple update site at 460KBs around 15 minutes ago - 500+ MB combo update.  That is using all the bandwidth I have available and over a wireless connection to my router - great speed.

Two thumbs up for snap internet. Broadband, great price, friendly staff.

A brief update for you: The international bandwidth upgrade has been ordered. We are just waiting to confirm the date which it will be installed.

This time round though Duncan - has Orcon ordered enough bandwidth to accomodate all the needs of your clients?

Are we gonna see it fixed only for a short period of time again and then have latency issues again?

I surely hope not.

If we had been told a week ago there was an upgrade on the way I'd have stayed but spinning the issues and blaming cold weather and exchange congestion has removed any confidence I had in their services. For 3 years they were a rock solid and reliable ISP but no longer IMHO.

Yes, this issue has meant that we have completely re-evaluated the forecasting methodology we use, and consequently re-forecasted our bandwidth requirements going forward.

Nice to know that apple updates can go faster then 100KB/s. There was me thinking apple servers are always slow, but if you can get it at 460KB/s on Snap then I think we know who is to blame for my year of slow updates Cry

Good to hear Orcon is getting more more bandwidth, but by the sounds of it, it will be here just as I am leaving to another ISP.

Oh and I saw my question about whether Orcon is going to have similar plans as xNet and Slingshot has not been answered (or not included when sent) so there is absolutely no reason for me to stay with Orcon waiting for nothing to happen.

Not to sound bitter, but maybe they should have ordered more bandwidth *BEFORE* they ran the promotion - then this whole fiasco would neve have happened in the first place.

This is great news Duncan, for Orcon's sake I really hope you have forecasted correctly and purchased enough bandwidth this time, another failure will surely destroy Orcon's reputation once and for all.

Here! Here!

If after this next bandwidth upgrade I still continue to have issues I will surely leave.

I am also still awaiting to hear from mangement re: my email complaint I sent in on Friday.  So hopefully they will respond to that by next Monday (5 working days) else I will still take that side of my complaint to Fair go - hopefully Orcon will come to the party and show me and other customers good faith - if they value our business and want to continue the relationship.
