They are above ground, and those dimensions sound about right, most of them are green, but some have art on them.

If I'm not mistaken Chorus upgrade maps used to show if you could get VDSL or not, if you aren't too sure you can use Telecoms site to check if it is available in your area, it would be a rough indication of course.

Hmmm, this is definitely set into the ground, so probably not a cabinet.

According to the Chorus map, we can't get ADSL 2 or VDSL - literally 150 metres away!

Hey guys, we have just been advised our VDSL routers will be arriving in October so we can finally get ready for launch. We have decided to keep pricing really simple and will just add $10 a month to any of our new BIG data broadband plans – it might be slightly more on the unlimited plans given the amount of additional bandwidth we will add. Anyway, the team are working frantically on the project now, so we will keep you posted.

Nice, well my address says I am good to go with VDSL, just have to convince the other half that we need it when its brought in.

I'm a few hundred metres from a cabinet on a Slingshot VDSL trial - here's my results:

How many metres? I am about 300 from my cabinet.
I can definitely see I am going to have to convince the other half, I am sure she will agree

According to Telecom I can get VDSL where I am so that's a plus. How do I find out where the cabinets are?

I'd estimate that I'm about 200-300 metres from my cabinet.

At 300 metres you should still get ~50Mbps speeds providing your home wiring etc is all ok, however it is somewhat of a dark art forecasting what the speed will be as VDSL can be susceptible to interference by neighboring copper etc.

Well after a bit of searching I'm about ~750m away. Assuming it comes this way and not the other. What's the max distance for VDSL to be effective?

Nice, all my wiring has been replaced, so hopefully we will be signing up to VDSL

Do you know the price of the vdsl router yet? Can I prepay it and get it shipped when they arrive?

Awesome.

Hope its no more than $15 on the Unlimited plans though.
Telecoms is $130 for 500gb.

I use between 200-350 gb per month.
Paying $111 for POTS + ADSL2+.

Line length is approx 130m for me.
Attn on ADSL2+ is 2-5db  (different modems report different figures).

Slingshot: Hi,

Unfortunately there is no official word on Slingshot getting VDSL at the moment.

Mike

A simple "it's coming, but it's still in planning stages" would make me much happier than that.  I'm very very close to jumping ship considering Snap has been selling VDSL since what?  January?

My area (like many in NZ) has had VDSL2 enabled for years, and no plans to have UFB rolled out.

Buttonmash:  Please disregard that message - it was posted in error and has since been nuked.  VDSL is indeed coming very soon - we have completed trials and have our first batch of VDSL routers on the way in October.
