So i switched over to Snap VDSL with VOIP from Orcon Genius ADSL and purchased a Fritz 7390.

I rewired my main terminal with Cat5e and have only a single phone jack in the house which the Fritzbox connects to.  As i am 383m away from my exchange i have not needed to install a splitter at the outside TP.

The initial irk i had was when a Chorus tech called me up and said that he needed to check my setup at home to verify all was working, seems someone at SNAP forgot to add that info to the forms that were sent out to initially about the setup process.  So ok, fine sorted and vola, functioning VDSL at some quite respectable rates:

                                                      Receive Direction     Send Direction
Max. DSLAM throughput kbit/s                70000                10360
Min. DSLAM throughput  kbit/s                360                   360
Attainable throughput    kbit/s                42692                12416
Current throughput        kbit/s                42536               10352
Latency                                                8 ms                 8 ms
Bitswap                                                on                     on
Impulse Noise Protection                        0.0                   0.8
Signal-to-noise ratio   dB                       13                     15
Line attenuation         dB                       11                     102
Carrier record                                        A43                  A43
Profile        8b

What is really starting to anger me is the fact that at completely random times the phone will ring with a call from an unknown number, pick up the phone and nothing is there.

its not a problem when im home since i've tied my S3 into the home calling but when i get phone calls from midnight to 5am and have to start unplugging my phone, then there is a problem.

I saw a previous thread in these forums about an identical issue but there was no conclusion to it.  SNAP have apparently changed me to their new VOIP system but:

=|04.07.2013 23:58 | Unknown | unknown | Fixed line network | 00:00
=|04.07.2013 13:52 | Unknown | unknown | Fixed line network | 00:00
=|04.07.2013 09:10 | Unknown | unknown | Fixed line network | 00:00
=|04.07.2013 08:44 | Unknown | unknown | Fixed line network | 00:00

Does anyone here have a solution or know of a way that this can be dealt with?  I cannot block hidden numbers as people call me that have hidden numbers.

See this thread re: phantom calls on the Fritzbox
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=90&topicid=119456

Basically you need to edit the config and remove the open port 5060.

Snap needs to fix this on the Fritz unit's they are shipping imo!
