I'm looking at getting a DECT handset(s) for use with my Fritzbox. Anybody using the combination in the title, or have any other recommendations.

I'm looking for somethign reasonably cheap, doesn't need too many features or huge range (house is small) I do have my Fritzbox in a cupboard under the stairs though - how much\likely is this to affect range?

Have found this thread but not sure if there are likely to be any differences between NZ models and AU models of the handsets (they seem to have different model numbers?)

Panasonic seem to work best I have found. DO NOT get Uniden DECT the are a different standard. I use the KX-TG1611NZ which is cheap and cheerful. What I found made it work was using the Permit non-encrypted DECT connections option.

not sure if its relevant but im on Voip through Snap and use the Fritzbox 7340 and i just plug 2 normal phones into the fritzbox and program which one rings through the fritzbox and they work right through the house and outside so i had no need to get new dect phones.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Cool the TG1611 looks good. Yeah we currently used voip and have a very basic wired analog phone plugged into one of the ATA ports on the fritzbox; works fine but it's a real cheap one and a PITA 'cause it's wired.

Also use sipdroid on both mine and the mrs phones, but the quality is not great (they're just optimus p500s)

What's the deal with the base station and the fritzbox? Can it be registered with the fritzbox as a sort of range extender or would I just use it to charge the handset? (I know very little about DECT\GAP!)

You register the handset to the Fritz then the base just becomes a charger.

How did you change that setting? My Fritzbox doesn't show anything other than a checkbox to enable DECT and a pin textbox - I see references to that setting in the Fritzbox help for DECT but it doesn't seem to show any of the DECT options until a handset is actually registered... the handset won't register (I guess because the setting above is not set).... and then the Fritzbox times out when waiting for a handset to register and automatically turns DECT off!

EDIT: Hrmm.. I can actually see all the remaining attributes are in a div(#hide_page) with "display: none" so can edit this to display them in chrome. However even with with "Permit non-encrypted DECT connections" selected this thing is still refusing to register. Also tried the "Enable troubleshooting" checkbox at the bottom of the page but no luck.

I think I did a factory reset or something first it has to be unregistered from the base station it came with. I am pretty sure that option was there the whole time I just remember one phone worked with it on but the new Panasonic only would register with it off. Should just be under DECT then Base Station link. Direct message me if you have any issues.

I did a factory reset on the Fritzbox (The Fritzbox didn't work initially on my line and during troubleshooting with snap we did a factory reset) - so that's been done.

The panasonic handset has been de-registered with the Panasonic base station - following instructions in panasonic manual to deregister it (and I've also tried it with the panasonic base station turned off completely)

I've also tried different PINs (other than the default 0000 that both fritzbox and panasonic say they're set to)

No luck though.

Here's what the DECT page looks when I open it initially. Checking the Enable DECT checkbox just allows me to change the pin and nothing else. The handset won't register like this.

So I have to edit the DOM in chrome to see the extra settings (which are all part of the same form - just hidden, so they should submit with everything else)

I've circled the ones I changed. I've tried with ECO settings on and off and also with the Troubleshooting checkbox selected.

Clicking apply with these settings gives the following:

At this point I go into the handset and into Setup->Register HS... enter the PIN ( default 0000 and I've tried others too) and it just says "Registering"

I then click Next on the Fritzbox and get this:

But after a while it fails. The panasonic handset still says "Registering" for a while, but then that obviously times out too.

At this point I can try again (which fails again) or click Back\Cancel on the Fritzbox which seem to just turn off DECT and I'm back to square one. :(

I know I had trouble the first time but I just tried again and worked in seconds. I can only think its not actually turning off the encryption and therefore not registering.

Yeah I've tried a bunch of stuff now. Nothing seems to be working. Did you register another phone with the Fritzbox to "turn on" DECT or was the TG1611 the first?

I have a 1131 Panasonic I registered first which took me a while but it should make no difference.

Just an update:

The TG1611 refused to register and information on whether it's really GAP compatible is few and far between (even on various panasonic sites\spec sheets; the most Authoritive thing I could find is on the features page on Pricespy - it says not GAP compatible)

So I went and got a TG2511 (which a number of sites list as GAP compatible, including pricespy but also various UK sites) - it registered straight away :) Interestingly once it was registered I could then access all the DECT settings and change the "permit non-encrypted connections" and that allowed the TG1611 to register.

So they're both now working nicely; the only slightly dissappointing thing is that Caller ID doesn't work properly. Maybe it's some settings I need to play with, but the TG2511 just says "Incoming Call" and nothing else; while the TG1611 lists the phone number of the incoming call, but not the name. Not a big deal TBH but it is nice to have.

So what I've ended up doing is re-registering the TG2511 with the base that it came with and I have that plugged into one of the ATA ports on the fritzbox - Caller ID works fine on it like that.

Then the TG1611 I just have registered with the Fritzbox as Base station and it just shows the number of the incoming call, which is ok.

Has anyone tried with the Panasonic KX-TG2721NZB or KX-TG6891NZB? They're both available on Flybuys for reasonably small numbers of points. I found a general compatibility list here, Panasonic seem to be pretty good.

Also interested if the current firmware plays nicely with the Panasonic DECT handsets, and if there are any problems or gotchas.

Can't remember our panasonic model, but while they work, Caller ID does not which means im still running it from the ATA ports.

So what's the best approach, pair the phone directly with the Fritzbox, or plug the phone base station into the Fritz? I don't much care about caller ID, and the Fritz is in an inaccessible location so it would be a pain to charge it up there.
