I've been connected to Snap VDSL & VOIP for my phone for 1 week now.

So far I haven't noticed any broadband slow downs that may be congestion related .  My connection seems to run at peak speeds all of the time.

Speedtest shows..
Ping 10ms
Download 43.99 Mbps
Upload 9.32 Mbps

So, that is very good.

I'm still not so sure about VOIP yet . I am using the fritzbox as a DECT base station for my Panasonic DECT-GAP handsets.

Some people said the phone line was really noisy.  Snap made a remote adjustment to my fritzbox that seems to have fixed that.

My dect handsets occasionally disconnect from the fritzbox and I need to reselect the base from the handset.

The occasional incoming call just disconnects when I answer .

Some interactive answering systems (eg, Snaps) cannot detect my phone key presses (press '1' for tech support doesn't work for example). But, some others do work OK (eg, PBTech).

Sometimes(1 out of 10 calls maybe) it takes a long time for an outgoing call to start connecting -- I've had to wait up to 40 seconds for a call to start 'ringing'.

Snap have recommended using a wired connection but haven't had time to test that yet.

I'm wondering if I should splash out for a fritzfon.

Hello... Our robot found some keywords in your post, so here is an automated reply with some important things to note regarding broadband speeds.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

- you have reset your modem and router

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

- you read this topic and follow the instructions there.

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your post and add this now:

- Your ISP and plan

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- Your general location (or street)

- If you are rural or urban

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

I recommend you read these two blog posts:

- Is your premises phone wiring impacting your broadband performance? (very technical)

- Are you receiving a substandard ULL ADSL2+ connection from your ISP?

Maybe start by taking any DECT compatibility issues out of the picture? i.e. plug your phone's base station straight into one of the FON ports and register the phone with the panasonic base station and see if the problems persist.  I'm also use one panasonic handset with my fritzbox and it's not really all that smooth - I suspect the cheaper panasonic DECT phones aren't quite 100% GAP compatible or something (if that's possible)

i have used Snaps Voip since its started and im on ADSL, i have the same problem with the 1 key , but i thought it was my phone so thats interesting, i to have trouble connecting to some calls but that has only been in the last week or so, along with some calls disconnecting and i use a phone plugged straight into the FON 1 connection.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Another option would be to sign up for a 2talk number for a month and give that a try - you can I think setup multiple voip lines on the fritzbox, so you could give 2 talk a try? I'm with them and they seem pretty rock solid.

I'll think about that if I cannot resolve the issues.

It is quite possible my handsets are at fault.

DTMF not working is unlikely to be the handset. It would be an issue elsewhere.

RFC2833 is typically used in the VoIP world and is the best option for DTMF. You could check if your Fritz!box is configured for RFC2833.

Sbiddle is correct it's not the handset, it's something to do with DECT on the fritz as I have one handset that works and one doesn't. The one that doesn't is fin when it's base is connected to the analogue fon jack. I spent ages trying to get it to work and in the end I just left the base station connected

I have both these issues, second one with a much smaller delay tho, however im not using the DECT features of the fritzbox, i have my uniden base station plugged into it

i spent quite a bit of time calling companys to change address's etc, id say about 60% of the IVRs did not respond to the key presses - this is annoying but i havent called them up about this yet

I dont have 40 second delays but i now have about 5-7 second delays for it to start ringing - this only started happening in the last week, first few weeks this didn't happen.

I've connected the panasonic cordless base station to the fritzbox now and disabled dect on the fritzbox.

Hi guys, those of you experiencing issues with DTMF, what do you have it set to in your Fritz!Box?
To check go to Telephony: Own Telephony Devices: Edit your number and see what DTMF is set too. It should be on automatically.

For those of you experiencing issues with long silences to connect a call, we are aware of this issue and are working hard to resolve.

Cheers, ^AL

I think you mean  "Own Telephone Numbers" under Telephony

DTMF transmission is set to automatically already on mine already.

Can you guys change it from automatic to RFC2833 and retry ?
It's probably trying to use inband DTMF on the calls that fail (SNAP should be able to confirm this).
