I'm seriously considering switching to 2degrees, since Vodafones pay monthly packages don't have enough txt for me, and Vodafone just don't seem interested in keeping customers. I'm just curious if 2deg will work fine for what I need and where I need it, which is very simple - calls and txts from my simple Nokia phone - an XpressMusic 3100 or something.

I live in Wellington, in suburb close to the city that seems to have coverage, and spend 99% of my time in the city or at home. I go to Wanganui and random places around New Zealand occasionally, such as Napier and Martinborough. Once or twice a year I go to Australia or Fiji, I want to be able to make calls and send txts. I want to txt any network in NZ, and my brother in Sydney - I don't know what network he's on but the number start +614105.

Will 2deg work fine for all that, at home, around NZ, while overseas, and txting people in Australia?

not sure about fiji, but sydney was no problem and my auckland experience is much better than with the VF network. plus 2d have just dropped the roaming rates to aus and introduced international data packs which is a great option.

Been using it all round Auckland for the last year - no problems.
Seems to roam all over the rest of the country ok.
Works in Aussie (as pointed out above just got cheaper too!).

Took it away last year - didnt use it - but turned it on in France and Gremany and it welcomed me and told me the relatively expensive call/text rate (arent they all pricey overseas).

Why wouldnt it work for you?

Hey I changed over last month and have just changed my wife over this week. We live out in the country and have no problems with signal. 2 Degrees roams to Vodafone where they don't have coverage.

I can't comment on messaging overseas but everything else is great. You will probably find you save a lot of money moving to them. We are already saving $40 a month.

The costs are pretty similar, I don't expect to save money. VF and 2D packages are about the same, and I have double minutes on VF for 3 months. It's only when txt comes into it that 2D gets cheaper, and then it gets waaaaay cheaper.

Why is that? I've had my number for 8 years it'd be a real pain in the butt to change.

you may not receive texts from overseas if you have ported numbers. search this forum, you will find a few complaints about it.

2 Degrees have been struggling to get some overseas networks to acknowledge ported numbers.

"If you are moving your number from Vodafone, you may not be able to reliably receive texts sent from these overseas networks: Vodafone UK, Vodafone Ireland, Vodafone Germany, T-Mobile USA and SFR (Vodafone France). We are having difficulty getting an agreement with those networks to allow some transferred numbers to receive some texts from customers of those networks."

My wife and I just changed and it has been nothing but positive. we are stoked with 2 degrees in AUK

Txting people in Aus will be fine - also it is only 9c a txt

Thanks guys. I'm ok with those limitations for now, but hopefully they fix them in the future.
