peterds: Four+1 started on Freeview Satellite on July17 . Now I suppose we have to wait for Prime+1 or will the next one be One+2 ???....I believe they have a few +2 channels in the UK.

To me, as many viewers now have time-shifting devices, this Freeview bandwdth would be far better used to launch a few Freeview HD channels on Satellite. 14% of Kiwi households will still be without Freeview HD when the Terrestrial network is entended fom 75% to 86% coverage.

Four plus1 hasn't used any Freeview satellite space. It is on a Sky transponder. Also, hasn't Freeview HD already extended to 86% in 2011?

Wish they could be HD. I don't like watching the plus one channels because they look terrible, Oh and four and prime should be HD too.

That huge logo on FOUR+1 doesn't make for a pleasant viewing experience. The logo on EdgeTV is much better but I don't think many want to watch a music lineup aimed at the same few people who watched TVNZ U.

They aren't going to put Freeview in HD on the satellite as it would be a large cost for a low return.

HD channels are tasked DVB-S2 H.264, legacy DVB-S mpeg2 boxes can't decode such channels so for this reason alone the current bandwidth would not be used.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

Depends if they remembered to record the show or be watching that channel to be able to watch it, Sometimes your like oh sh*t i missed this, and then you can go back and watch it:)

And the simple truth is that Sky provide DVB-S2 H.264 HD versions of ONE, 2 and 3. Duplicating this with the current meager resources could never be justified. It will await a sat launch.

So anyone know who we'd have to talk to so as to push Sky to unencryt those HD feeds? Is there a minister of broadcasting?

THe Minister of Broadcasting used to be Stephen Joyce who I believe used to be a shareholder or senior executive for TV3. He was very pro deregulation, pro Sky TV and, like many Nats, wanted to clip TVNZs wings as it used to be somewhat left-wing in its news and current affairs.
It would be a good idea to canvas the present Minister of Broadcasting on this issue and the Labour spokesperson and try to make it an election issue.

Ondemand / 3 now is for that.

IMO that needs to be delivered thru the freeview epg and let you go left as well as right in it, and act less like the old chronological listing of a newspaper and have similar shows and episode lists etc.

The guide on freeview is Imo worse than the old teletext one because it's writing is bigger it shows less and it is no more use other than having a pretty channel logo on it.

Sorting out proper access to the historic broadcasts online is the answer not more +1 channels.
