Forced? That's up to you a MyFreeviewPlus receiver will let you fast forward them if you have recorded a show, But there is no skip feature for live tv or ondemand content

I guess the new TV's that have freeview+ built in will only allow you to watch Live and ondemand? There won't be a recording feature? I will still need a MyFreeview receiver to do that?

If this is the case then I don't see the point of upgrading my TV just to receive the ondemand (with annoying adds) extra?

Am I missing something here? Should I run off and buy a new freeview+ TV?

from what I understnd, it will be a nicer way of viewing OnDemand. so instead of logging into a TVNZ app, or a TV3 app, searching for the content etc, you will be able to use the 'reverse EPG' and just find the content you want and play via that, just as if you had recorded it yourself.

the UK has had Youview for a little while now, I think Freeview+ will be similar

I just bought a new TV, and when doing the research I did initially think I should get one with Freeviewplus, but then I realised I never ever watch anything from freeview anyway and I could save hundreds of dollars by buying a slightly older TV. If, at some point, I dod decide to get Freeview+, I'll just grab a STB. I have plenty of HDMI slots on my amp anyway.

I think you will find if you change the broadcast location to Australia on that TV it will give the option to turn on HBB TV under the programe settings , but this would mean doing a manual tune and resetting the time zone. It may then work with Freeview plus , I have not tested this yet as I don't think there is anything live to test on . It would be easier if LG would update the firmware for NZ seeing that the TV is obviously capable of using the service .
Just looked at the specs of your TV and it says that it does have Freeview Plus.

I was looking in the 'broadcasting system' section of the specs and assumed since it didn't mention there that it wouldn't work. (I don't have the Tv yet, it arrives this weekend)
but I see it is actually mentioned under the 'convenience features' section instead.

Ah well, makes it an even better buy then. :P

Freeview has re-launched their website with Freeview Plus arriving tomorrow

I notice in the compatible devices for LG and Panasonic TVs there are a few models not listed that have been enabled to work on the Freeview Plus in Australia . I hope that's not a ploy to get people to upgrade as these were only 2014-2015 sets and are probably capable of using NZs Freeview plus with software update .

Just pulled the latest stream off DTT to see if the URLS have changed

Freeview EPG - http://hbbtv.fvpnz.co.nz/app/latest/index.html
TVNZ - http://tvnzhbbtv.fvpnz.co.nz/main.html - requires login
Mediaworks - http://mwhbbtv.fvpnz.co.nz/main.html - appears to be functional
Maori - http://mtshbbtv.fvpnz.co.nz/ - just a blank screen

From the help screen of the Mediaworks app it states around 225MB per 23 minute show and video playback quality is adaptive.

I've been told by Panasonic NZ that my 2014/15 Panasonic TV won't be getting any updates to make it compatible.

Yes, there are several Panasonic PVR models which got upgraded in Australia:

DMR-BWT945 3D Blu-ray Disc Recorder with 2TB HDD
DMR-BWT740 3D Blu-ray Disc Recorder with 500GB HDD
DMR-PWT540 3D Blu-ray Disc Player with 500GB HDD
DMR-XW440 DVD Recorder with Twin HD Tuner

I've got the BWT840 which appears to be the NZ version of the 740 (identical product pages and spec, but Aussie has 740 and NZ has 840). I've emailed Panasonic to ask about it (and also about why my top-end $800 machine is still waiting for the Netflix app). I have no doubt it has the hardware capability for HbbTV 1.5 but whether we get the software update remains to be seen.

I noticed my LG TV isn't listed, although it is listed as freeviewplus on the LG website. (65UC970t)

I went on the LG live chat and asked. They said it will work for Freeviewplus in NZ, just needs to be enabled in the menu once it launches. :)

Question (might have already been answered) but can you still access on demand content if you aren't in an HD coverage area?

We only have a DVB-S signal but have fibre. I'd be quite happy to watch things on demand if possible.

EDIT: Right read through some posts and looks like you need an HD signal. Which sucks. Its not like I live in the wops either just unlucky to have no signal.

Can you see an HBB TV option in the programe settings .? It should be there even if Plus is live or not .

Is that because it dosnt have the hardware or because they want to sell new TVs ?
