Hi team,

I've just spent 6 hours trying to get a TechniSat SkyStar 2 Digital Satellite Receiver card working

I installed it in an IBM M50 desktop and got the device driver software downloaded from the suppliers website and installed.

When I ran the Setup4PC program which makes the connection to the Optus D1 satellite; I can see the icon in the system tray go green when it is scanning and getting results.

When I close the scanning function, the system tray icon is green.

I can see in the program management list all the FreeView channels available for NZ.

When I try to use the dbviewer application I can the see the SkyStar in the hardware settings.

I cannot see anything in the channels list and when I try to scan for the channels the system try icon goes red and I cannot see any channels to view.

If I try to use ProgDVB5 and scan the channels I the system tray icon goes red and no channels are available to view.

I'm using an IBM M50 Desktop 3.2 Ghz,  512MB RAM, 23GB Disk free, with WinXP

What is the problem with not seeing the channels?

Cheers
Bernard

If you've got the setup4PC then you are you using the WDM driver. Uninstll all technisat software, download the latest packer the SS2 from their website, extract it don't run any setup, just update the drvier in device for SS2 and point to the BDA folder that will came with the driver pack. Now if all goes well you will have the the SS2 device under sound/vide/game controller instead of under netork controllers. It should work with WDM or BDA but BDA is better and so best to start with this. What is your LNB's LOF?

Hi mcraenz,

I have amanaged to do the driver update ok and it is showing in the Video game contollers of the hardware list now.

I tried reinstalling the software and it says I need to load the device drivers before it can install.

Should I use the software that came with the card now to install?

I don't recommend using the software that came with it, better to use a 3rd party app like, MediaPortal/TVserver. It's a bit more work getting it all up and running but it's well worth it in the end. What dish ae you using? And is this going to be a dedicated HPC connected to a TV?

Hi,

What is your LNB's LOF?

What is LOF?

What dish ae you using?
Sharing the skydish with Sky Digital receiver through a splitter.

And is this going to be a dedicated HPC connected to a TV?
Yes

Oh by the way, after installing the card as a video controller, the inbuilt LAN connection is showing as working but is not working, no IP address now.

I removed the card and rebooted but no difference,

So to recap all I need is the SS2 driver and the Media Portal/TvServer and it should run (after setup)

Cheers

Hey look I have an SS2 and I've had issues with drivers! Unless you feel confident stripping drivers (files/registry) from your sytem here is what I'd do:

1.Rebuild your system with Xp or Vista and all hardware drivers, (Using the only  BDA driver for the ss2, don't install any technisat software)
2.Install MediaPortal and configure TVServer.
3.Enjoy and very stable DVB-S setup; the SS2 is a great card.
4.You should install, absolute minium software/codec on an HTPC

Oh yeah I wrote this wopping great wiki section in manual:

http://www.team-mediaportal.com/manual/Country_Specific_Informations/NewZealand/FreeviewTVE3

See how you get on, if you're still having trouble come and join the New Zealand thread in the MediaPortal forum, we'll get you up and running in the end Laughing

p.s. The Technisat Setup4PC+WDM Driver is only good for one thing, checking signal level/quality, but since you have a sky dish you're probably fine.

Hi mcraenz

I reinstalled the operating systema and media portal (the latest release 1.00 RC3)  and everything else.

I have connected it all up to the coax and I can't seem to find the Optus D1 in the list

THe TV Server function is different from your notes in the wiki.  This is where I'm stuck :-(

I have joined MP as bgbailey but I cannot find any NZ related stuff yet

Cheers

hi macraenz

I'm back at it again

I've managed to get the SS2 scanning ok up til late this afternoon.

Now all I get is this message when I try scan the channels for Freeview

1nb:1 1tp- 12456000 LinearH 22500:No signal
1nb:1 2tp- 12483000 LinearH 22500:No signal
Total radio channelsnew:0 updated:0
Total tv channelsnew:0 updated:0
Scan done

I get the same message when Scanning the Optus B1,D1 Staellite,  No signal

Earlier in the day I could even preview TV One and some very faint picture would come through.  Now nothing.

If I connect the coax to the sky box instead of the SS2 I can get Sky fine, so it is not the aerial/coax.

Is there something wrong with my SS2 install?

I have disabled the card and reenabled it with the BDA drivers and run the DVBFIX

Any ideas?

Cheers
Bernard

BTW... how do I get the system summary, so often quoted at the beginning of the MP threads?

Hi,

I created the Freeview.ini file and added the row into the satellite.xml file.

Having done that I thought I would not need to put in the LOF overrides?

I'll put that in tonite and check it out.

Hi mcraenz,

I hope you're looking

I've added the LNB override settings and ticked the override box

12456
0
22500

Still no joy.

I think I'll start at the beginning again with the original software that came with the card.

Cheers
Bernard

No these are compleatly wrong for LNB LOF settings:
Please read the section on LNBs
As per my link above
http://www.team-mediaportal.com/manual/Country_Specific_Informations/NewZealand/FreeviewTVE3

The LOF override settings should look something like:

11300
11300
0

or

10750
10750
0

But it depends on your LNB, if you can see it from the ground; it should say on it what the LOF is.

You're very close now! Don't give up! :)

When you go to the TV guide in mediaportal do you see the channels? If not check the channel groups in TV Server and make sure all the channels are in the "All Channels" group. Can you preview the channels in TVServer? If not then you might have a codec problem. But when you installed MediaPortal it should have installed the MPV/MPA MPEG2 codecs and that should be all you need for DVB-S.
