Broadcasting company MediaWorks, which operates TV3 and C4, is launching a second music channel titled C42 with plans to play "up to" 30 per cent New Zealand content.

The channel will be available only on Freeview following its launch on May 1 - the first day of New Zealand Music Month.

Mediaworks said C42 would play music 24 hours a day and was designed to complement C4, which had moved on from its music television origins and was now a "general youth entertainment channel".

I'd rather see something like a classic TV channel, similar to what TVNZ may be doing with Heartland on Sky.

Seems pretty cool, I always wondered what they were going to use that spare channel for.
Also note, "Up to 30% local content"

I note they say exclusively on freeview. Sky includes all the freeview channels, so won't they want a piece of this action too?

Yeah Sky is getting TVNZ 'Heartland' channel, so that will keep them happy (which btw, is a complete joke for 'Free to Air')

Not too keen on the 30% local, since there isnt enough local music worth listening to for that.

The best thing IMO would be C4+12 or so, since all the good stuff is on overnight and in the early morning, whereas the evening is full of idiots with spare prepay credit choosing what crap hiphop to watch.

Of course no TV company can please all of the people all of the time, but from my point of view Mediaworks already have one channel that I rarely watch (C4), one channel that's useful about once per month (TV3 Plus1) and now they are introducing another that I may never watch.
