Hi, I'm looking for a DVB-S2 STB. Mainly needs to be reliable and easy to use. For a non-techy friend who lives a long way from me and I don't want her to have to worry about support. (I.e. not a hobby box where you have to play around with various firmwares to make it work well!) Don't need PVR. Want to spend ~$150. Am I dreaming?

What are the OpenBox units like? Seems like you get a lot of bang for your buck which is a concern!  Reason for DVB-S2 is GEM etc as long as it lasts.

Cheers,
mcraenz

FYI.. They are gone already. Since 29th Dec and so far not been back. It may well be they instated a 2012 plan which invloves dropping the Sat feed of it for cable.

Basic warehouse jobbie.

You haven't said if you want hdmi etc but this one gets good reviews and auto scans to find different lnbs etc and gets the freeview mheg5 guide etc.  It's often on sale if you can wait a week or so etc.

Are you saying that Channel 9, Gem and Go! have gone from Optus D1? I've been desperately trying to get a better signal on the 12398 V transponder!

Any explanation as to why it has been pulled?

Hi Icon,
I'm happy with my Openbox S10. I've got 5 cheaper satellite decoders but the Openbox is the best. There is a guy selling them on TradeMe for $159.
cheers,

Only supposition.
The best theory I've heard is that they were only ever there as a work-around because of a cable fault caused in the Queensland floods.  The presumption now is that that has been fixed or a different work-around has been put in place.
