Best colocation provider?

Morning All!

Whats the best co-location provider in NZ?

Looking for the following spec :

Reliable
Cheap
Preferably Auckland
Unlimited traffic ( international and national )

I would look at HD - my experiences have been good. They're not super cheap, but they're reasonable, they're Auckland-based, with good network performance and I've had no real reliability issues.

I would avoid HD at all costs. I've had terrible experiences with them, as have many others here on Geekzone.

I've been using SiteHost for VPS and hosting for a couple of years now and they are great. I don't know if their colocation offering matches your requirements but they offer great support - http://www.sitehost.co.nz/hosting/colocation

I have found WebSlice to be quite good.

You get the occasional internet outage but it is still within the 99.9% uptime.

Also if your business broadband is with voyager traffic is unlimited.

I know a number of customers who tried them and have had terrible experiences. I'd avoid if I were you.

Rule of Thumb:

Price, Quality, Features, pick two.

I'd rather not re-live the whole story again, but I ended up almost $1000 out of pocket after paying for a service that they could not deliver and would not refund me. Search the forums here for more complaints, probably under their old name of Hosting Direct. I don't know for sure but I'm betting they changed their name to avoid the bad publicity they were getting.

dam , thought it was only their residential stuff that was bad.

Unbelievably I'd say their business stuff is worse in my experience. My experience however is at least 6 months old as we have moved all our clients away where possible.

We've got some space in our Hamilton facility that broadly fits your criteria.

We do a fair bit of 1U colo for clients, mainly for customers with Mac Mini Servers who need rack security + reliable power/cooling/dedicated-bandwidth.

Woah, traffic for colocation customers seems to be terribly limited. Even moreso than residential connections. No wonder people prefer overseas.

I can say without a doubt avoid HD. When i used to run web-2u.co.nz, I got 3x customers who were switching colocation to us and in all 3 cases, parts of their servers were "missing" like power supplies, drive caddies etc.

Web-2u is pretty cheap, unlimited traffic and Auckland. Reliability is Good but not excellent.

I would also strongly recommend you stay away from Orcon. Their facilities are good and network reliable however they struggle to handle even a $3000 a month account so not sure of their abilities for 1u colocation. It will be difficult to get them to meet you at the DC if you ever need any work either.

I would also be wary of the "Data Centre" where Webslice, Voyager etc. are based. That place is in a basement in a flood zone (although once in a 30 years or something flood). Also no parking and might be redzoned in an Earthquake.

You could try Unleash as they subrent cage space from Compass just off Khyber Pass road.
