Hi guys,

Just saw Oneplus Nord CE available at PB:

https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/MPHOPL012000/OnePlus-Nord-CE-2-5G-2022-Dual-SIM-Smartphone-8GB1

It advertises support for 5G and VoLTE and I am curious to know the following:

* If the whole situation around 5G/VoLTE/VoWiFi support in NZ has changed for Oneplus?
* if so, is it specific to Nord CE or others as well such as 9/9Pro/10/10Pro?
* what prompted the change if the above is true?

Maybe @nikT might be the man to answer the questions?

That’s extremely interesting. Simply because to get 5G and VoLTE to play ball you needed root and you needed to change the modem profile via PDC(my experience with a one plus 8).

If this is truly out of the box and it works then I’m both extremely surprised and shocked.

I’m watching this with great interest.

Yes, there doesn't appear to be any disclaimer on the ad to say 5G and VoLTE not supported in NZ so one would assume both work out of the box.

I wonder if it's also to do with the SoC used in Nord CE which is a Mediatek Dimensity series as opposed to SD?

yep, same deal with me and the 8 pro, claims 5g but is not available. very frustrating. shouldnt have to do backdoor tricks to make it work

I brought one of these last week. Put Skinny and 2Degrees sims in and everything seems to be working out of the box.

I wonder if it has something to do with Oneplus merging with Oppo?

Now that's what I call an impressive out of the box experience.

I wondered how long it would take for Geekzone to notice. :)

The Nord CE 2 is a nice piece of kit for sub-$600, used it myself for a few weeks to be sure the user experience is satisfactory in NZ.

VoLTE and 5G support for OnePlus is on a per-model basis, we are working directly to test everything locally before confirming ranging. Hoping to launch more models later this year.

This is looking very promising!

Maybe Oneplus might be back in consideration for future upgrades again.

I bought one of these Nord 2 CEs from PBTech and its basically unsuable. Time sync over 4G/5G is forcing the phone to 01/01/2000 rendering the phone useless. The same sim card in my old phone works fine.

Which network are you on, and which software build are you running? Are you able to turn off automatic date/time sync as a temporary workaround?

We tested Nord CE 2 5G extensively prior to launch and did not encounter this. Happy to report the bug to OnePlus if we can reproduce.

@NikT do the Nord 2 CEs support the ASHA direct to hearing aid protocol? My searching has turned up conflicting reports.

I'm on Spark and running the latest available software release.

Turning off the auto time sync does allow the phone to function but its hardly ideal.

My one did this too yesterday. I just rebooted it and it's been fine since.
