qwerty123:

Android 8.1 was out on March 28 for Nokia 6. I updated my Nokia 6 on 29th.

Just wanting to double check: when you say you updated your phone on the 29th, did you do that via the Check for updates method on the phone? Also, is it a TA-1033 you have, and what service provider was it on?

My Nokia 5 is offering an update to Oreo 8.1, an 1817MB update.  This is a unlocked Spark phone on 2degrees network.

I'm so far reluctant to update it as the phone is currently working so well. Some people seem to have battery issues after updating on the Nokia forums. Anyone tried it yet?

I have to say the Moto G5s Plus at $415 (or $399 when it was on at JB) really is undercutting the upcoming Nokia 6.

I know there is knew stuff to the 6, a new SOC and Android one.

But we looking at minimum $85 difference, possibly $150 at some retailers.

Also the G5S Plus is using the IMX258 sony 13Mp sensor, like an LG g6, like a g6.

Id imagine if you could get the pixel HDR apk on the G5S Plus, it could turn out to be quite a snapper, Im sure its been done already so Ill google that up a bit.

On the plus side to the '18 6 looks HOT, its got newer hardaware and to me looks more ergonomic. Not to mention Android One, which could be worth the price difference alone.

Edit:

Found some G5 Plus, not G5s Plus Pixel APK pics in this thread, some on the front page. That train is classic over use of HDR hehe, but still looks cool.

https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4172309

is the Sensor in the original Nokia 6 as the 18 6 model?

If anyone is willing to try would be interesting to see if you get an improvement with the Pixel HDR+ APK. At your own risk of course, be care ful not to root your phone etc.

The Moto G5s plus "appears" to be currently $397 at JB

Looks like they have the wrong spec info listed against it though - The details describe the G5s.

Not sure how good Motorola/Lenovo are with android updates.

I wondering why it was showing up in price spy greyed out, usually that means they sale has ended, or the vendor isnt a paying member.

Oh boy I feel like going for a second take. I didnt look at the screen that hard last time as I was there to look mainly at the Note 8 and Meizu M6 note, which screen is not done justice by the UI, I do wonder if it looks like it should according its specs ina  movie etc.

Doesnt give one good hope for the 6 arriving in the projected months time, but Id not be surprised if its then too, around the 3rd week of April.

Its a pretty tried and true format, large IPS lcd with big battery = good screen on time. It wont give you the cine log pro video features or audio of the v30 or the quad dac for immersive sound or HDR video for that matter. but it will give you android one. yet to find out how important that reall is. for me its not really, i run phones well out of update or security patch, i use them for what i bought them for. but for those that love updates its going to be a great experience imo.

Today one of my Nokia 6s started spamming the following notifications:

CP Client: New provisioning message

Opening the  notification results in:

New Provisioning: Do you want to apply new configuration? Postpone Delete OK

Thanks for the clear and user-friendly messaging Nokia.

Looks like a dumb message, but googling it, it appears to occur on other phones as well. So perhaps an unclear and unhelpful message from Mr googles wonder emporium?
Did you manage to stop it?

Provisioning messages are a standard for pushing APN updates to handsets. Spark uses this mechanism in NZ. The presentation of them seen here is standard for vanilla Android, so this is on Google rather than Nokia.

Looks like you're right, but I see only Nokia results when I Google "CP Client" "New provisioning message".

I factory reset the phone because it wouldn't stop.

PS. how do you get into the boot menu on this phone now? It was already convoluted in Nougat, but now with Oreo it seems to be impossible. All I can get is the "No Command" screen, and none of the instructions for getting from there to the boot menu work, not even the Nokia 6 specific ones.

I'm looking into getting my wife a Nokia 8 dual SIM model from a parallel import source, such as this one from Parallel Imported - $601 versus $750 for NZ-sourced stock.

From the decent amount of research I've done it seems this is about the best-value phone at or below this price point (but would welcome any other suggestions) - fairly pure Android experience, Oreo upgrade, well-built, sits nicely in the hand (as opposed to the 6, which feels as uncomfortable as any Xperia), decently fast, good screen, decent camera...

Are there any 'gotchas' that I need to be worried about with getting this particular model Nokia 8 from a PI source? (Other than the usual comments that apply to all such PI  purchases.)

Thanks...

I've been looking at the Nokia 8's as well and JBHiFi seem to have a really good deal going on (https://www.jbhifi.com.au/phones/Outright-Mobile-Handsets/nokia/nokia-8-steel/497500/)

The Nokia 8 Sirocco, which is the next generation, doesn't seem to be out yet so i've gotta decide whether to wait or just grab the 8.

Edit: Sorry, just realized that's the Aussie site :(
