richms: Wireless charging is a pain. It's slower than cabled and you can't pick up the phone and use it when charging. Not that the wireless charge can keep up with using the phone anyway.

My Nexus 5 came with wireless charging and it worked a treat. Granted, it is not quite as quick as cable, but was a dream to use (I had one pad on my desk at work, and one on my bedside cabinet). Not sure about your comment about not picking up the phone, the N5 could be picked up from pad and used immediately - was no different than pulling the cable out from a wired charge.

It's not easy to pick the pad up as well as the phone to keep it charging while using the phone. Charge speed on the real samsung fat back and dock on my note 3 is about twice that of being plugged in which is already too slow. With the eBay special back insert it's barely enough to keep up with the use of screen on not doing anything.

I had to purchase the wireless charging pads from Amazon.com. I purchased two LG WCP-300 units, from memory around $140 landed in NZ for both. I decided to get the LG product for the LG Nexus. I was very happy with the unit.

Just to check. I read earlier that you can easily remove the charging flap by taking out a screw with the cover off. Has anyone actually done this? If yes, do you keep getting a reminder on the phone that the flap is open? I ask because I may finish up getting this phone, but the inconvenience of the charging flap is a big issue for me.

Ran some benchmarks, to get an idea of what I've got stock, before I start fiddling.

LHS: power saving off.
RHS: power saving on.

SGS5 - still better than the SGS4 even with limited CPU and GPU.

Battery is pretty decent I think. I am now 1.5 days in with moderate use, a little gaming and I have a little over 12% remaining. I expect to reach 5pm before charging.

Any recommendations on the best place to buy one from? I currently use prepay 2degrees so contract is not an issue, I would like to keep my phone number though.

Are there any considerations regarding whether to buy 2deg, Voda, Telecom etc? Does each carrier use a different customized OS? My current phone was a parallel import so I haven't dealt with a carrier purchased phone before.

So long as it's a NZ model and not parallel imported, it won't matter what vendors phone (2d or vf or tnz). I recommend JB HiFi personally, warranty there is probably the best I've come across.

Agree with networkn, I'm well impressed by the stock config battery life.

Battery stats yesterday:
25+ hours off charge
3.5+ hours screen on time
34% battery remaining

Yeah I had a look at mobiles while I was in The Warehouse the other day and asked if they had any stock, the girl there said that you have to buy it for a particular network even if you are buying it outright. So they must come preloaded with different stuff depending on the network I assume.

I bought my Galaxy S5 from 2Degrees (special pre-release bundle with the Galaxy Gear 2 Neo).

I was quite surprised to find it only includes what appears to be a standard micro usb cable rather than the new usb 3.0 micro usb cable that takes the full width of the slot S5 slot.

Wondering if everyone is getting the same?

Very happy with my S5 so far (upgraded from S3).

The current model S4 (the i9506) scores about the same as the Note3 FYI
Power saving off, stock 4.3. If the price drops down now with the release of the S5, the i9506 is a VERY nice alternative.
