Finch: I bought it from Dick Smith, just over 11 months ago so I can still take it in under Consumers Guarantees Act I guess? Anybody know what Dick Smith are like with after sales support? I have heard only negative about them.

You are still covered by standard warranty anyway, no need to invoke the CGA unless you get a runaround.

Do it before twelve months though or you will be facing a lot of talk...

maxeon: $498 for HTC One, lowest I have seen.

http://www.harveynorman.co.nz/phone-and-gps/mobile-phones/2degrees/2degress-htc-one.html

It's described as a "2 Degrees HTC One" - does that mean it's branded 2 Degrees, and the 2 Degrees logo pops up when booted, even with a no-2Degrees SIM card? It's eveidently the 16Gb model at $493 but it's still a great price.

In regards to the capacility, it is the 32GB model looking at the specs.

I spoke to someone @ Noel Leeming (Botany Centre) who told me it was the 16Gb version, after he informed me it the HTC One "made by 2 Degrees" LOL...

I have not seen a 16GB model in NZ before. Maybe the person you were speaking to got confused from HTC One and HTC One X ? But the above link is to Harvey Norman which is 32GB version.

The Telecom One doesn't do that, well it might do if I had put a Telecom Sim in there, but currently using my phone on 2 degrees and it has no carrier customisations.

Ooops, my bad. It was Harvey Norman's, and the "helpful assistant" I spoke to was adamant it was the 16Gb model, but then again he also informed me it was the "HTC One made by 2 Degrees". I  suspect it's the 32Gb version as another poster has already noted.

I'm pretty sure there is no One with only 16Gb onboard. The dual SIM variants with MicroSD slots may, but they aren't available here and they're quite a different device.

The 2Deg/VFNZ/TNZ Ones are all identical, same software. Any carrier customisations will be installed on first boot depending on which SIM you have inserted.

Finch: Update on my charging problem. I can no longer charge my phone at all. This morning I tried to charge it through the power socket in the wall, no LED light both when phone is on and off. When the phone was on it didn't recognise that the USB cable was inserted/power was on it was as if it wasn't. Tried through my laptop, again no LED light or charging however it did recognise that a USB cable was connected to the phone (When the phone was on) and I could browse my phones memory.

I now think it I a problem with the battery itself because my laptop recognised that there was a connection between itself and the phone via USB.

It is currently switched off, on 5%. I will probably turn it on a bit later and quickly get some files/pictures/videos etc onto my laptop so I don't lose them (Should of backed up my data!!)

I bought it from Dick Smith, just over 11 months ago so I can still take it in under Consumers Guarantees Act I guess? Anybody know what Dick Smith are like with after sales support? I have heard only negative about them.

I had a similar problem with my phone a few months ago, and eventually found it would only charge once the battery had run dead (0%). As soon as I turned it on or unplugged it while charging it would no longer charge until the battery had died again. Tried charging from the wall, from laptop, using multiple USB cables, nothing changed. I took it to the store I bought it from and had a brand new phone 5 days later.

Cheers mate. Looking to take mine back either later today or tomorrow. Like you it seems it will only charge once it hits 0% battery.

Well I just did a factory reset and now everything seems fine. It is charging through USB, charging through wall adapter and laptop is recognising that it is connected. I did notice before as I was transferring files to my laptop through Bluetooth, that the USB area of the "storage" section was greyed out. Thinking it done it itself somehow, also Car mode was popping up randomly and I have noticed that seemed to be a common problem judging by my research.

However now all seems fine, at least initially after the Factory Reset.

Recently I purchased an iPhone 5S for work, I hadn't used one since back when iOS 6 came out and I was pleasantly surprised by iOS 7.1. I have been toying with the idea of dropping my Android device for it after using it as my main device for the past 2 weeks. However there are just a few too many little annoyances for that to happen (NO BACK BUTTON!!!! *much rage*), though there are a few things it definitely does better than Android. So my eyes have been opened a little more to the shortcomings of my current phone.

This weekend I was at Warbirds Over Wanaka, using my phones to take photos and video. I was terribly disappointed by the One, I haven't used it massively for photography before but even the close up photos of planes weren't anywhere close to what the iPhone took. Video was even worse. Most pics I'd taken previously were usually of a people and close up and have turned out pretty good. But anything where the subject is more than a few metres away and the detail and definition is rubbish.

I had been planning on upgrading to the M8 when it arrives here but as it has the same camera as the M7 that isn't going to happen. I think HTC have shot themselves in the foot by keeping the same 4MP camera, a modest bump to 8MP which is still less than most flagship phones now would have been more than enough to stay competitive.

I'll be jumping ship to Samsung and getting myself an S5 now, the camera in that is really quite impressive and having played with one I think I'll be more than happy with the phone.

So if anyone is interested in buying my current HTC One, let me know. It is in excellent condition being in a case all its life and even came with factory S-Off.

Interesting.. further to my post, when connecting to a laptop mine would also show up as not being recognised - i.e it knew there was a device there but wouldn't charge and couldn't do anything. I did a factory reset and it didn't fix the problem. Good luck with your phone anyway.
