Just an update.

After doing the factory reset it would charge and being recognised by my Laptop no worries as posted above. However that seemed to last only the initial day or so, so earlier this morning I took it into Dick Smith, they are sending it away for repair. I got home last night and my phone was on 11%, I checked it 45 minutes-1 hour later and it said 0% and turned off. So somehow it lost 11% in 1 hour maximum with no apps running (I didn't use I during the day). It did charge up initially (After multiple attempts), however when it got to 100% I unplugged it from the cable, and the green LED light stayed there.

I now wait for a 1-2 weeks.

I have finally been afflicted by the camera 'purple haze'. I thought I had got away with it but when I went to use the camera in very low light conditions there was only purple fog visible. The only change, the update to 4.4.2. Prior to that the camera was as perfect as a 4Mb ultra pixel can be.

I've just noticed it on my phone... also thought I was lucky.

The internet tells me that some people think upgrades improve it, some think it makes it magically worse... This suggests to me it probably happens progressively over a number of weeks or months and the timing is coincidental - upgrades just happen to be a time where we spend a lot of time looking at the phone's features.

I'm going to go have a word with Noel Leeming and see what they have to say about it. They gave me a great deal when I bought it (Matched the parallel importers). Really hoped I had gotten away with not having to deal with this.

Ok I have the purple tint issue and need to restore back to stock Vodafone rom. Anyone have the link handy for the guide to this?

But it's not as if I have just bought it though, it's a year old. And I was able to compare from just before the update to just after. Something definitely changed.
I might log a fault with HTC and see what comes of it.

Yeah I'm the same - wasn't 'til the Kitkat update that it showed on my phone. I'm personally not too bothered by it, as I don't take many photos in the dark/low light so its not been a big deal, but it DEFINITELY seems to be at least partly to do with software/firmware rather than just "bad" hardware.

I note that HTC websites have the international version of the One in the 'integration' phase for the Sense 6 update. What exactly is 'integration' on the road to our Ones receiving it here? I'm assuming it's somewhere between beta testing and carrier testing. The One Max for AT&T(?) is getting the update, but it is the first of last year's models to get it.
I'm picking end of July for our (NZ) Ones

It has been happening for some people since very early after the release which rules out specific software updates. Technically software plays a role, but it's a hardware issue and appears to be because there's copper casing used in the camera sensor which transfers too much heat.

There's quite a bit of info about it now. It's to do with heat damage to the sensor caused by Zoe always being on when the camera is in use. it also means that it will probably eventually happen to most M7s, how long it takes is a bit of luck. But even if it hasn't happened yet, the process that leads to the burn is probably happening.

It's also likely that it has happened to a lot of people who just haven't noticed it, and as it's progressive might not notice it creep on. I didn't notice it to begin with, only noticed it one evening while messing about in the dark. But now when I look through my instagram feed, I can see it progressively come in over about 2 months.

Kind of destroys my faith in HTC build quality, and the trouble is i have just dropped outside the 1 year warranty so will have to argue CGA if i want to get it fixed.
Thank you for the explanation though.

Are you sure the warranty is one year? When I read the warranty document that came with my HTC One, it said 24 months.

I have the purple tint issue as well and need to contact HTC about it. I'm just over 11 months from purchase date. Does anyone know if they can provide a courtesy spare phone while it's being fixed?

Pretty sure they won't give you a courtesy phone while it's being fixed. I just bought a Motorola Moto G from Amazon and my wife used that while hers was being repaired (and it got replaced) and when I sent mine in through work they let me use a spare one in the office.

Hi, I too have a battery/charging problem with my HTC One.

This is my second One after sending my original (purchased May 2013) back to HTC because of the purple-camera tint issue. I received a replacement phone within 3 days (great service) that showed no evidence of the purple-tint. I've had that for about 1 month now.

Yesterday we started a 1 week trip to the Gold Coast. I used the phone on the plane to access the in-flight entertainment system (Virgin AU) and also used my potable charger to get it back up to 100% when we left the plane. I also picked up an Optus SIM card ($2/day with 500Mb/day data!) and popped that in. I activated it (calling Optus) and applied the charging voucher. This involved rebooting a couple of times. After that I used google maps to find out how to get where we're going. The phone was plugged into the car charger - at this stage I didn't notice whether the red led was showing or not. Long story short, the phone appeared to discharge the last 40% in less than 30 mins then switched off. It wouldn't charge through the car charger - my wife's iPhone did and much to my embarrassment we had to use the iphone to finish navigation :-(. Tried all the ports in the car with no result and have also tried the wall charger, a laptop and the portable charger. None of these cause the red led to light on the phone. The portable charger wont even recognise the phone (usually it starts charging immediately and shows the discharge percentage).

I've searched geekzone and goggled for this problem. Most people recommend tried fixes such as attempting a fast boot from laptop, holding down volume + power combos, leaving it charging etc. I've tried all these but have had no response so far. No leds are glowing, there's no power-on vibration - nothing at all.

If I was still in NZ I'd be using my trusty HTC Desire backup and sending this one back - but I don't have that option.

Does anyone have any advice?

Might email mobilefonerescue (HTC agents in NZ) as they supplied this phone.

Cheers

Sounds a little bit like a discharge or a near discharge.

I've not encountered it with an HTC so could be talking through a hole in my face... but had it happen with an iPhone. Normally the phone shuts down before it is completely dead to prevent the battery being damaged. But if for some reason it doesn't shut down like it should it can either be more difficult to wake up (not so bad), or completely dead (very bad).

My iPhone wouldn't restart any normal way, and wouldn't charge when plugged in to any devices or the wall. It also happened when I was on holiday and trying to get the last few drops of power out of it. I spoke to DSE and I ended up having to hold a combination of buttons to reset it. It beeped angrily and gave me an 'extremely low charge' type warning on screen, then it charged as normal. It's still working fine now several years later.

It seems to be some sort of protective forced lock out, so hopefully good luck.

I'm waiting to get my phone back. I still love it despite the purple. Using an iPhone again reminds me how good the HTC is.
