What wireless chargers do people recommend for the Note 8? I like the look of the official Samsung convertible wireless fast charger, but if I can get something similar for less than than the official $129 then that would be good. Lots of different options on Aliexpress, but does anyone have a specific model/seller to recommend?

I have encountered a problem with the Note 8 whilst using the earlier, 2016, official Samsung wireless charging pads (EP-NG930). These are the same size as the latest charging pad (EP-PG950) and available for less than $100. We have two of these and they worked well with the Note 7 and S7E.

But every time I tried to charge my new Note 8 on those chargers, the wireless charging would constantly start and then immediately pause in a cycle. This happened with both of the two chargers - case on/off, vertical/horizontal.

In desperation, I reluctantly purchased the newest convertible model (EP-PG950) and it works fine.

Hat's off to JB Hi-Fi. I spoke to the in-store Spark sales guy that I bought the phone off and he would not let me try the new Sammy charger, saying it might be a software issue. "Wait and see"!!! WTF??? Lazy pr*ck!

So popped downstairs to JB Hi-Fi and the sales guy there ripped the cover off one and bingo. Worked fine and handed over my card for $129.

Going back to JB tomorrow for another.

yea there is definitely something wrong with the note 8 and the EP-PG930 wireless charger, they are not working correctly together, damn you samsung

the note 8 is working with a much older wireless changing pad fine.

Dan I made an interesting discovery last night with the older EP-PNG930. If you connect the charging plate to one of the older "non adaptive" chargers, then the charging plate will work. Sadly, not as fast as you would like, but it works fine. I will keep the new plate for fast charging at work and the older one for trickle charging overnight at home.

yea you are right, plugging the 930 wireless pad into my anker charger, seems to be much more reliable than the samsung fast charger

An extended update on the battery life performance. Check out that overnight discharge, or lack of discharge i should say. I performed a battery calibration as my calculated battery consumption was only summing to around 3000mah, after the calibration it become 3300mah.

If i drained it to zero i could quite easily have seen +6 hours screen on time, thats with full brightness and resolution on max. One thing to take note on is that if the android system, android OS or device idle use more than 200 mah each, this is going to affect total battery performance. Any apps that use considerably more power than either of these also, will depreiciate the battery faster. My daily usage is ultimately youtube and web browsing.

i bought the Zagg InvisibleShield Curved Glass screen protector and I'm not overly impressed.
- The installation was a breeze as there is an installation template included in the box. This helps line up the screen protector perfectly with the phone.
- As the protector is curved, there is adhesive around the edges to help keep the protector in place. The screen protector has moved ever so slightly which has caused dust and fluff to adhere to the edge of the screen protector.
- Touch sensitivity is reduced, especially in the centre of the phone. It almost feels like a resistive screen. i have to touch a little hard for the phone to register and I can feel the screen protector 'flex' when pressed in the centre of the screen.
- The screen protector does not affect the usage of the stylus pen.

I'm going to persevere but I may just remove the protector if it keeps driving me nuts but I am hesitant to try other curved temptered glass screen protectors.

I also grabbed a Dex dock and have been using it as a replacement for my work laptop. My work laptop is very large and heavy. Think 17" screen and quite thick. I don't use my laptop when travelling but, if I do need to do anything like that, I plan ahead and swap out my laptop for a non-work (personal) Surface Pro 3.

I am quite impressed with this. Works great, multi-tasks like a champ and the phone doesn't even get hot. The other day, when showing a couple of people at work, I was doing the following;
- Marking up a Word document
- Running Citrix Receiver to get access to a corporate desktop
- Using Nine (email client) for checking and sending emails. (as a side note, Nine has been updated to include support for Dex.)
- Browsing the internet with mutiple tabs open in Samsung Internet and Google Chrome
- Demo-ing a game or two .

Bluetooth keyboard and mouse connectivity just worked. Set both devices to pairing mode and connected seamlessly. I'm actually using it right now.

I'm heading to Australia next week and will be leaving my laptop at home. I'll just take my phone, Dex dock, mouse and keyboard and I'll be saving about 6Kg of carry on luggage.

It's a bit hard to test as i don't really want to start hitting my phone with a hammer but dropped it this morning and its fine, also have the phone in the same pocket as my keys and no issue

I did get a small mark on my s8 when i had keys in my pocket but after applying the glassx it removed the mark.

I had just logged in to ask about the DeX, when I saw your post. Thanks for the quick review on the DeX.

I am dead keen on getting on, and parts of your assessment feel very similar to my situations. However, I swapped a full laptop (17" screen) for a Surface Pro 3 just over 2 years ago and have not looked back. Portability, size and convenience of the Surface is great.

I have been looking at supplementing this with a DeX station. Using the Surface when i am out and about for my job, but also using the DeX at home, and abroad. I use Word and Excel alot for work, and while it is great to be able to view on my Note8 it is difficult to edit etc. Being able to connect to virtually any monitor (TV or Monitor), would be great.

Where did you source? Price?

Oh 2degrees you were doing so well

Should have got a wireless charger when i pre-ordered the note8 and was told they would send it this week, just went into store to be told "you need to call <insert 3rd party company> and ask them" Which seems to be 2degree's supplier of cell phone accessories. When I asked how long I should wait i get a blank look and told 3 or 4 weeks.

Not what was told me to me when i picked up the note 8 last week.

Not overly happy about this pre-order now.

My preorder experience with Spark was nearly the same. The 256GB SD card didn't ship with the phone, and when I went in store to find out what happened, they said I would need to speak to 123 and set up a call back. Got the call back, and they said it was up to the store to sort out. I didn't accept that, and they agreed to talk to the store to sort it out. Got a call back from them 10 minutes later to say that they would send out the card directly. That was last Friday, and yesterday the card was delivered. All up, pretty good service all things considered. Would have been best if they had supplied it right from the start, but I've found Spark to be generally good at sorting problems with minimal fuss.

@salttlas - I bought the dock from JBHifi for $249. A bit pricey and it probably could be found online for way cheaper.

@geektastic - I'm staying at the Novotel Gold Coast so will use the TV in the room in the evenings. I'll buy a local SIM from Optus or Amaysim and load up a couple of gigs data.

Have to agree with the Zagg glass shield, very poor touch screen after application but i guess i'll take the protection over the non responsiveness until Samsung releases their official membrane type screen protector. Kinda tempted to just buy the official S8+ protector and use that in the interim.

Just regarding your DeX usage, are you using your phone with a case on it? Is it sitting flush with the connectors or are you having to use an extension cable? And also does the DeX dock have a fan on it to cool the phone by any chance (or a fan to just cool the internals of the DeX dock itself?)
