NikT:

This is the new second-gen PXC 550-II that launched at the tail end of last year, not the older model.

Thanks, I stand corrected. Looks like it gets Bluetooth 5.0, aptX-LL, and better ANC performance over the original.

Thanks Nik.

I'm interested in getting 2 of the 'First Class' bundles for my wife and I (I'm aware it's limited to 1 per customer). How long do you think we have to order given current sales rates? Is stock getting low or do we have a bit of time (a day or so) to get our ducks in line?

Cheers

D

May depend on the exact phone model and colour you're looking for as these bundles have limits on all the components. Pre-sales kicked off from ~11:30 this morning and will ramp up significantly over the weekend, but you should be ok taking a day or two for that one.

I do anticipate they'll all be gone before the street launch date of 6th March, can be both a blessing and a curse running an offer that's a bit more generous than others in market.

Lot smoother this year than several memorable Galaxy S launches in years past. Think this is my 7th year of launching Galaxy S, so you'd hope it'd get easier over time.

Probably won’t get much back by flipping the preorder bundles to bring the cost down, probably cheaper to wait for a sale and pick one up at a better discounted price.

On the flip side should be no shortage of Headphones, buds, Echo Shows etc on TM shortly.

Yes, sub6 for the local Exynos, sub6 + mmWave for the Snapdragon versions - had to ask specifically about this one as it wasn't in the standard spec sheet.

The most complete and accurate list of specs I've seen so far is at Anandtech: https://www.anandtech.com/show/15482/samsung-announces-galaxy-s20-s20-and-s20-ultra

wow thats average ... so most of the flashy features of real 5G ..wont be achievable on these exynos version S20's ... i mean once the mmwave spectrum gets auctioned off?

I wonder if the lack of mmWave on the Exynos is a hardware limitation on the modem or can it be activated via a future software update when mmWave is available in NZ?

This seems likely, or at least potentially possible. The Exynos 5123 modem does support both sub6 and mmWave. We've seen this sort of thing before with DC-HSPA+ and LTE models having capabilities locked down in software until network support emerges.

I'm certain Samsung will be putting their best foot forward with these products, the Ultra in particular is a bit of a return to form for the legendary Galaxy S kitchen sink featureset.

On another note, having handled the devices, my favourite feature so far is a new element in the camera UI - when you're extremely zoomed in, e.g. the 100x on the Ultra, it's often hard to tell what you're looking at on-screen vs. what's visible to your eyes, and the slightest shake can mean you completely lose track of your target. This is the case with the existing periscope zoom devices like the P30 Pro and Oppo Reno 10x. Samsung have elegantly solved for this by showing a thumbnail of the full frame in the corner of the viewfinder, allowing you to A. figure out what you've zoomed in on, and B. reposition the zoom to anywhere else in frame by tapping on that thumbnail. Very very cool and sensible.

Is the $200 off with 2Degrees the same deal as other years where you can cancel straight away and keep the discount?

Does anyone know if there's going to be a Galaxy S20e variant? As much as I'd like to upgrade my aging and somewhat dying Galaxy S7, my employer will never fork out $1500 on a phone, nor should they.

Nope :(

The very-nearly-here Galaxy A71 might be worth a squiz though.

Pbtech's Website says "phone balance repayable if you end your eligible plan". So I think not.

Well of course the phone balance needs to be paid off but if it is like previous offers you still get to keep the $200 phone discount.

Fair Point. I'll need to check the terms and conditions futher because it would be a good opportunity for me to change to 2°.
