My optimistic crystal ball tells me that the issues re. Huawei, China trade war, and Iran, will start to be solved with miraculous agreements about six months before the next Presidential elections in the USA. About the same time as Bolton being fired and being replaced with a general dripping with medals.
with Trump v Xi, 2 of the 3 biggest egos on the planet you don't know that. i wonder if Xi is on the phone to Putin right now.
Interesting response from Google..
"We assure you while we are complying with all US gov't requirements, services like Google Play & security from Google Play Protect will keep functioning on your existing Huawei device," Google said on Twitter.

the word existing says everything to me. it confirms what isn't said.
This is going to backfire really badly for the US - especially if China decide to pull out of the WTO.
You can say goodbye to China even caring in the slightest about copyright and trademark infringement because there will be nobody to enforce it. Every US chip vendor who's got production in China (ie everybody) will suddenly find their IP is now being used by the Chinese to build their own products.

LOL. I think that ship sailed a long time ago.
Or are you suggesting Huawei will now name their notebook computers MacBooks rather than MateBooks?

China won't pull out of the WTO.
It's more likely that the US will:
“If they don’t shape up, I would withdraw from the WTO,” Trump said Thursday in an Oval Office interview with Bloomberg News. Trump said the agreement establishing the body “was the single worst trade deal ever made.”
So there still isn't a confirmation if we are getting actual Android OS update ie. Android Q / R
This is quite important for me, to have at least a major version update
I believe there are some genuine concerns in the USA that China is going to access American innovation and secrets, for a long time the USA was the top of the technology pile but China has caught up and is now accelerating away. To make it worse its a bit of a home goal in that the rush for profits Capitalism at its finest has meant moving the technology and fabrication to China and part of the Chinese requirements was that those companies had to get local Chinese partners to work with and share IP with. Now if you multiply this by multiple countries everyone has given China their IP, and knowing that historically China has been world leading country for innovation e.g. gunpowder, their people are smart and they are making the most of it.
So we are where we are China is on the up curve, USA increasingly feels like End of Empire in its actions. Americas smart people are keeping away from politics, this leaves a void where Radicals and Loony Tunes characters are getting power and dumbing that country down, we may be in for a major correction over the next few years. China's Government is dodgy at best but they are seemingly running rings around the American Government, and the reactions reek of paranoia.
I'm thinking America sees the only option to stop this is to break the system but I think its too late to try an force this the proverbial horse has bolted its going to be an interesting few years.
President Donald Trump said he was “very happy” with the trade war and that China wouldn’t become the world’s top superpower under his watch.
...
China’s economy is “not great” at the moment, Trump said. “Our economy has been fantastic. Because they were catching us, they were going to be bigger than us. If Hillary Clinton became president, China would have been a much bigger economy than us by the end of her term. And now it’s not even going to be close.”
So that's it. The POTUS is treating global trade as a competitive sport where the winner takes all.
I've written a letter to Winston Peters as Foreign Minister and "NZ First" leader. This sort of sovereignty issue should be of interest to him.
I also wrote to my local MP.
But that's really all we can do. Make it clear to local politicians that American laws shouldn't be applied outside America......and the Google that operates in NZ should be subject only to our law......especially when there is a lying, crooked, deranged grandpa in the White House.
