Hey guys, sorry if this is OT (just signed up to Geekzone), but is the Kingston 32GB microSDHC memory card compatible with this phone? I'm looking to buy one online, so yeah, help would be really appreciated.

I'm going to say yes. The Galaxy S supports microSDHC cards up to 32gb

Thanks for the quick response! If anyone else would like to confirm this, please don't hesitate to do so. Just want to be sure 'as possible' before making my purchase.

Does no one have access to google anymore?

Kingston's 32GB microSDHC card is capable of storing nearly 29,000 photos, over 6,000 songs and more than 2,000 minutes of video. The card has worked flawlessly when tested on the latest crop of smartphones including the HTC Evo? 4G and Shadow?; Motorola Droid? X; RIM (BlackBerry?) Bold? 9000; and, Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant?.

It should be fine with Galaxy S i9000 also.

Has anyone noticed that there is an icon next to the phone firmware label at the following page (whereas in the past it always showed a 0)

http://nz.samsungmobile.com/support/softwaremanuals/software.do?phone_model=GT-I9000&sw_type=SW

If you follow the link then you get a page not found, however, if you change "nz" to "au" then you can download software called NPC "New PC Studio". So the url would be ..

http://au.samsungmobile.com/support/softwaremanuals/software.do?phone_model=GT-I9000&sw_type=SW

Anyone know if this could be an update to froyo?

I downloaded it and tried it. Just looks like another version of, or alternative to, Kies software. Had the same issues trying to get it to connect...

Kies trouble?

I recently got a Samsung Captivate (AT&T branded) to work with the XT network. Generally love it, especially
the fantastic screen and getting into the world of customisation that's so much harder on an iPhone.  Thanks for so many helpful comments in this forum.

I knew there was an update to 2.1 supposedly with GPS improvements etc, but Kies never managed to download and install it.  Then I stumbled upon Kies Mini.  All it seems to do is to upgrade firmware, but it did that first time for me.

So here it is in case there are any other Captivate owners out their struggling to get their 2.1 update.  Hope it works just as well for Froyo.

Two new froyo releases:

JPM

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=807345

JP6

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=807351

It looks like JPM may be the official froyo release as the source code has shown up on the Samsung website - http://opensource.samsung.com/.

If you're upgrading from JPK to JPM it's a nice easy upgrade as it doesn't zap all your apps and settings (YMMV, backup anyway!).

Maybe I'm a little old or slow (or both!).  What does YMMV stand for?

Ooooh.  Actually I've never heard anyone speak those words together.  I obviously don't mix with the right crowds either ;-)

Anyone looked at the GPS settings?  Seems that with many of us getting them from overseas, there could be benefit in setting some of them to more efficient services or settings that suit us in NZ.

Here are my Captivate settings:

Application Settings:
Session Type: Tracking
Test Mode (S/W or H/W): S/W Test
Operation Mode: Standalone
Start Mode: Hot start
GPS Plus: ON
Dynamic accuracy: ON
Accuracy: 50
Use SkyHook: OFF
Use PC Tool: OFF

SUPL/CP Settings:
Server FQDN Type: Custom Config
Server: www.spirent-lcs.com
Server Port: 7275
SUPL Secure Socket: ON
AGPS Mode: SUPL

And in /system/etc/gps.conf
NTP_SERVER=us.pool.ntp.org
XTRA_SERVER_1=north-america.pool.ntp.org
XTRA_SERVER_2=http://xtra2.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
XTRA_SERVER_3=http://xtra3.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin
