Thanks for that - it worked. I had been hoping that the latest Kies s/w might somehow magically include a firmware update for the phone - the mythical 2.2 upgrade we have heard is coming. I saw a post somewhere in the last few days that said that the firmware update to fix the lag problem wasn't coming "over the air" - rather it would come via a Kies update.

kind regards Andrew TD

Yeah, the update you're talking about is Froyo 2.2. Who knows when that's coming. hahahaha...

Hopefully within the next 2 weeks or I have to pay a coworker $10

Fingers crossed, they've just pulled the 2.2 Source code back off the Samsung website :S apparently it wasn't meant to be leaked....so that might delay it

But I'm hoping on the next 2 weeks too.  It better not turn into another Gran Turismo 5 saga :(

So now that it's likely (certain?) that Telecom will be getting the SGS (hopefully with Froyo at launch!), should I consider moving from Vodafone?

I guess I'm asking, all things being equal, is XT's speed & coverage markedly superior to Vodafone's?

Holly sh*t! Looks like they starting to roll out the official Froyo! All Scandinavian countries already reporting it's being available for download from Kies. Nothing on mine tho...

Hard to say. I've been on XT, but not with a smart phone. Net speed was ok I guess. I'm currently on 2D and it's pretty quick. Well, quick enough for me that is.

Its actually available for download at www.samfirmware.com for those of you who can't wait for it to be available through Kies. This is to be upgraded using Odin.
PS this will however be at your own risk though.

I'll wait.

BTW...a work mate got a brand new Galaxy S he picked up today....and we used them side-by-side...and his phone had NO lag. None.

Ok...he had nothing on his internal storage yet....which may be the reason....but it was interesting to see a virgin, stock Galaxy S working like a dream.....

Never been able to get it to connect the phone in kies mode. Can do mass storage mode, but any time I connect trying to use kies just sits at connecting forever

Ive tried all different techniques, reinstalling, downloading different versions, running usb debugging then changing it, launcherpro always disabled etc etc, doing mass storage mode then swapping and plugging in cable at certain times.

tis crap.
