PODIATRIST EXEMPTS TRUMP FROM IMPEACHMENT

 

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—On Saturday Donald Trump secured a certificate from his personal podiatrist that exempts him from impeachment.

 

Dr. Harland Dorrinson stated that the strain of undergoing impeachment would “catastrophically inflame” a foot malady that not only prevented the President from active service in the Vietnam war, but has bedevilled him ever since.

 

While the doctor’s note drew protests from congressional Democrats, the Attorney General, William Barr, emphasized that the malady excuses Trump from impeachment on humanitarian grounds.

 

“Given the seriousness of the President’s ailment, impeachment is cruel and unusual punishment and therefore unconstitutional,” Barr said, adding that the Department of Justice would investigate Representative Adam Schiff and the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, for “crimes against the President's feet.”

 

Another prominent Republican, Senator Lindsey Graham, of South Carolina, vouched for the fragile state of Trump’s health. “I have spent many hours with President Trump,” Graham said, "and I can definitely confirm that he is behaving irrationally."

The Democrats are such idiots. They'll never get Trump out through impeachment, and all they'll achieve is to solidify his base behind him.

 

What they should be doing is fronting up with 2020 candidates that stand a chance of beating him by picking up as many moderates and swing votes as they can. But instead they give us more of the "old guard" with Joe Biden and Elizabeth Warren.

 

Just like in 2016 they're relying on people voting against Trump, rather than voting for their candidate. How did that work out for Hilary?

 

I'd like it not to be true, but Trump is getting 4 more years.

Trump is his own worst enemy. The best hope is that he finally gets caught doing or saying something so egregious that Republicans just can't excuse him any more.

He has been, several times. Take the recent abandonment of their Kurdish allies, even Mitch McConnell called him out over that one. It just doesn't change the way they will vote however. The problem is many republican senators are worried about being challenged from the far right. They will keep supporting him to keep the ~30% who love him no matter what on side.

Much as I'd love to see Trump impeached and removed from office, I'm sad to say I agree with you. He has proved time and time again that he is made out of teflon, and can continue to ignore or deflect criticism by simply saying that it doesn't exist. It is truly amazing yet worrying to see his barefaced gall in action.
Impeachment will have the direct result of his base hunkering down even more with their "we are so persecuted" line, and the Democrats will, by continuing to push either unlikeable or excessively leftish candidates, snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

I think it is because the democrats keep going with relatively safe centrist candidates that they are losing so much. People are not happy with the situation in the US and haven't been for some time. Trump won a lot of states because he represented something completely different. People wanted a change from the business as usual and in 2016 Trump was the only option. If they had a charismatic fire-brand leftist stand up and fight for genuine leftist polices then they would do very well. Maybe avoid calling the policies socialist, instead set their own branding. It is interesting that when polled individually things like medicaid for all etc are very popular but socialised medicine is a non-starter. Same for many other things people support the policies when broken down but are against them when presented the traditional labels.

US President Donald Trump has threatened to cut federal funding for the wildfires sweeping California, in a Twitter spat with the state's governor.

 

Nearly 100,000 acres have been destroyed by wildfires in recent weeks, and thousands have been forced from their homes.

 

Mr Trump blamed Democratic governor Gavin Newsom, saying he had done a "terrible job of forest management".

 

Several of this year's major wildfires have burned in unforested areas.

 

"Every year, as the fire's (sic) rage & California burns, it is the same thing - and then he comes to the Federal Government for $$$ help. No more. Get your act together Governor," Mr Trump wrote on Twitter.

 

Mr Newsom, who has been highly critical of Mr Trump's environmental policies, responded: "You don't believe in climate change. You are excused from this conversation."

You're right, I had her mixed up with Nancy Pelosi.

 

I still don't think she's the right candidate to oppose Trump though.

 

I really think they need someone much younger to really capture the youth vote. And as unfair as it may be, a female candidate isn't going to lure any voters from team Trump.

 

I don't mind Corey Booker, but I'm not sure a black candidate would capture the moderates and swing voters away from Trump either. Plus he'd probably feel the need every speech to mention he's a vegan!

 

EDIT: But I do think someone like Booker would still be a far better candidate then Warren or Biden.

Honestly I forgot who Corey Booker was, until I looked him up.

You're right that he would be a better candidate than Warren or Biden, but it's more about raising money than being best.

Candidates have to hit 3% in four early state or national polls, in addition to amassing 165,000 donors.

So far, just five candidates fulfill both those qualifications: Biden, Buttigieg, Harris, Sanders and Warren.
