Hi,

I'm considering upgrading to MYSKY HDi. Currently I have MYSKY and I am running 1 TV from the SCART socket and running another TV in a different room from the RF output at the same time. I have downloaded the MYSKY HDi and understand that it does not have a RF output so I need another way of sending the signal to the second TV,.

From the manual I see that it has both HDMI and Component outputs. Can both of these outputs be used at the same time? That is can I have one TV running off the HDMI output at the same time as another is running from the component signal.

I realise that the picture on both TVs will be the same!

Not sure about component but it will do composite video and audio at the same time.

Hi, the HDi is very flexible in this respect. The short answer is yes, the RCA component output will always be active, however resolution is limited to SD if the ICT flag is invoked, (ie with TV3 and Movies, but Sports will be in HD) and you have set the component output to be HD. The TV SCART will output only SD component if selected, and will do so while the HDMI is in HD.

If I set the output on HDMI to 720P and watch 'TV3' will the output to the component connections be 720P as well?

The way I read what cyril7 wrote, and my knowledge of HD, the Answer is No, the component output will be scaled to SD as the ICT flag is set by TV3 and component is not a trusted HDCP output.

ICT means that the receiver will look to ensure that the device it is sending the signal to (the Telly) plays nice and performs HDCP handshaking, HDMI can allow this, Component does not.

So the answer to your original post is yes it will output to component at the same time as HDMI, *but* it will *not* be in HD resolutions if the signal has the ICT flag set.

Hi, pretty much as Wellygary says, the RCA component output can support HD if the ICT flag is set to enable such, as such only Sky Sports currently allows HD output on that output, therefore if you have the HDMI port set to 720 or 1080 then it will output that on the HDMI output however on the component output all HD channels other than Sky sports will be down scaled to SD.

Can't comment on the sky boxes, but what wellygary described is pretty common on HD capable TV units where the manaufacturer/supplier wants to avoid licensing/copyright infringement issues. This setup is exactly what the official zinwell freeview boxes do. Yes you can have component output but it is never in HD, (well given the ICT flags times stuff), even though the component video interface standard allows for HD transmission. Makes you wonder how the non official box suppliers would get on if the studios or whomever chose to chase this point?

On more question: I have been told that the SD signal from the SKY HDi boxes is of a better quality than the SD signal from the standard SKY boxes? Is this the case?

If you set the TV scart to RGB or Component the Component RCA output is deactivated. A small thing but they are not always active.
