Recently picked up a 2010 Toyota Blade, and I’m hoping to replace the stereo since it’s Japanese. Have been looking at the Sony XAV-AX100.

I have a reverse camera and steering wheel controls which I’d like to keep using.

Been quoted $1100 installed, seems kinda high?

Any recommendations about where to go? If this isn’t too difficult I could DIY it.

Depends on how much you know/understand about car electronics and how much spare time you have to mess with it as to how difficult the job is.

I would say while it's not cheap, its not a high price. The Headunit looks about 700ish, then probably 100 or so for the conversion box for the steering wheel controls and some messing about to get the camera going if it has one, or potentially replacing it with a compatible one.

I have been through this with the MIL's Blade, the camera and steering wheel controls are a PITA to get sorted. Does the price quoted include having the controls and camera operational?

The quote did mention "That price includes the head unit, 2 x ISO plugs, the fitting kit, the Toyota ears that go on the sides of the head unit, an ASWC (Axxiss Steering Wheel Control interface), a voltage reducer (used to make your existing reverse camera work with the new head unit & 1 hours labour install"

Which makes me hesitant to DIY, since it sounds like more than matching up the relevant wires.

Just a note with the AX100 (had one in my old car), they do take around 30ish seconds to "boot" everytime you turn the car or the aux on. Other thing is to manually set the time, otherwise if you let RDS do it the time will be all over the place as you go from station to station.

I've not used that model unit before, but they are correct in needing the reducer for the camera, and the interface for the wheel controls.
