Hi,
I've bought my upgrade to Vista and it works perfectly! Gotta love Aero.
I've got a friend who has an illegitimate version of XP but wants to buy a genuine version of Vista. Does anyone know if the upgrade edition of Vista will install over his version of XP or does he need to a buy the full edition?

Seeing as he didnt pay for his xp licence he should buy the full version.

That's what I told him first, but he actually only did it in October last year so he didn't have to fork out twice. Anyway, besides the ethics of the situation, from a technical point of view does it work?

Given Microsoft's increased committment to secruity with Vista, and the illegimate copy of XP, I would doubt if Vista would install. I also concur with NokiaRocks comments - legitimate users should never condone piracy.

By the way - i hope your mate has a good PC, most commentators I've read to date suggest the best way to upgrade is to start from scratch !

I've heard of some upgrade installs going badly, but I've upgraded my home PC and laptop and it's fine. Albeit I upgraded the components of the PC in November to well above the minimum specs, and the laptop was bought Vista ready in Singapore.
Has anyone else upgraded yet?

No, it wo't work. And he paid once to the wrong people. He should have paid to an authorised reseller, which would then give him discount in the upgrade.
