I didn't want to hijack the thread below about the best bang-for-buck IPS so I made a new thread. I’m looking for a new monitor for mostly gaming, and have been looking closely at the Acer Predator XB270HU 1440p 144hz and the Acer XB270H 1080p 144hz. Anyone on here have experience with either of these monitors?

Is G-sync worth it? Will my current 980 be enough? Any suggestions about other possible alternatives is appreciated. I also hear rumours that a bunch of new monitors will be released in August, any truth in that?

edit: seems my links won't work...

I think a GTX980 (?) + modern CPU + 2560 x 1440 monitor will run any game pretty well.

I haven't seen Gsync (or Freesync) in action. The reviewer's seem to think it is worthwhile. I just wish there was one standard - not two.

A 34" (such as  http://accessories.ap.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=nz&cs=nzbsd1&l=en&s=bsd&sku=210-AEBS&redirect=1) might also be worth a consideration.

A few manufacturers are making them now.

You get a bit more screen than a 1440p monitor. But, not nearly so many pixels as a 4k monitor.

4k still seems borderline for a single GTX980.

I'm running a Philips 4k 40" with a GTX980 and have no problems.

I think 4k will depend heavily on the game/settings. I've had issues on a single 980 with certain games at 1440p, let alone 4k.

In any case, I'd personally not dive into the 4k thing yet, as I don't think a single card 980 would quite nail it :/ But that's from my limited knowledge, so take my word with a grain of salt, I guess.
