Orcon Platinum Plan

The technician came down and set up my connection on 14th April and mentioned that the connection will be up by 5pm. I borrowed a brand new ADSL2+ wireless modem router from a friend who never took it out of its package to connect to set up the internet connection. After some playing around, I figured out that I only had a single working phone outlet/jack (so I have to choose between getting a phone or getting internet... so I'm gonna buy a splitter).

However, for some weird reason the modem router doesn't connect to the DSL despite my connection settings being correct. You have your classic NZ settings such as the VC, VPI VCI (right?), PPPoA etc.

Is there a possibility that I could have telephone access but no ADSL/Internet access?

Depends what the tech did?

If the tech installed a master filter/splitter then one phone jack should be a dedicated dsl jack (with no dial tone, phone won't work).

They should have pointed out which jack it is and possibly labelled it.

Yes they should always label the ADSL outlet, but shouldn't even the new VDSL splitters still pass through the phone signal?

What lights come up on your router? If you have a DSL signal but no PPP then check precise format of username/password... And I guess you have already setup the PPP according to Orcon instructions?

Time to find a new industry!

Yeah thanks for the feedback. I trouble-shooted everything as much. There's only 1 socket in the wall for internet & phone. I've tested all available phone jacks (the old square ones and the modern thing rectangular ones) and I've confirmed that I got the dial tone going for the phone, but the DSL connection just doesn't light up on the modem router, so I can't even get to checking the username &  password etc.

No installation of any type appears to have happened. He used a few diagnostic tools to test the phone outlet and simply went to the wire boards on the street and fixed something there.

Yes, I would so dearly wish it was just stupid me not setting up my modem router correctly.

I think you have to enter the username and password details etc in the modem before it will connect to the ADSL? I've always doen it that way.
