TonyS071:LesC: Is there anyone in Wellington that can do the upgrade for me?
Maybe, but I haven't done my own or friends ones yet. Bits on order to make that possible.
Keep in touch or ask again in a few weeks.
TonyS071: I just got given a TiVo that hasn't been connected to the world for a few years. Running 11.3b6-01-2-663. Making a network connection to the nz mothership now for what it's worth.
I got hold of it mostly to give some practice/redundancy for prom replacement - but it would be nice if i could use the hdd as well (it's probably got less running hours clocked up than mine come to think of it)
Will the nz mothership still hand out new firmware in its current state (or was firmware delivered OTA?)
If the mothership did it and still wiill, do I have to request this download, or is it automatic?
The official mothership still seems to be updating TiVo software to 11.3b10.
The emulator will not. If you have applied the patch then you need to manually trigger the update via ssh command

Answering my own question...
"If you’re setting up a new TiVo® media device, and a software update is available, your TiVo® media device will receive the update on the second successful connection after Guided Setup completes."
So I think I have nothing to lose here. I intend to to a guided setup on the box I was just given, in the hope that the existing mothership can still service it, and give me the new firmware.
Comments anyone?
It's not firmware that gets downloaded, it's the Tivo app itself that gets updated. I've seen mixed results upgrading from very old software versions. Sometimes, even now, after 2-3 manual connections to the official mothership you may get the update to the very latest, and maybe not. You'll current get the update from 11.3b8 to 11.3b10.
You could do a winmfs backup of a good drive running the latest software, then restore that to the drive you're working on. When it's booted do the required Full Clear and Delete that is necessary when you do a "heart transplant" Fit a new PROM and install the new community software/patch and do a guided setup against the new mothership.

I give this tivo my award for dustiest ever. Challenge you all to find one worse.

Last photo after clean up with new eprom.
Took more than compressed air to clean this up. I was scrubbing the PCB with a tooth brush!
It was working fine in this state too!

Here is today's EPG for next week. Struggling with Friday's details.

As mentioned before, the little processor in the Tivo can take hours, to index EPG data, especially when a load comes in one hit. Check again later.

I'm pleased to announce that I received a shipment of 80x PROMS on Thursday, and @rphenix was kind enough to program them for me due to delays in my programmer arriving. All backorders have been sent out this weekend. I now have stock, and all going well, another 50x pre-programmed ones in about a week, followed by 100x more a week later. So, fingers crossed, supply will cope with demand.
Thanks for your patience.

Yes, I've been doing them from the start, and I'm located in Mairangi Bay on the North Shore. I will send you a PM with all details.

I would like to offer my thanks to the OZTivo community, your efforts have been amazing to say the least. My whole family is stoked that the mighty Tivo lives on. When my life settles down shortly, I would very much like to contribute to the OzTivo efforts.
I would also like to Thank Skolink for updating my Tivo, I know he had a pile to do (as probably others do) and really appreciate the effort he went to.

Glad to help. I've now passed Christchurch TiVo modding duties on to someone else with more time available. If you search for TiVo on Trademe the listing for TiVo modification will come up.
