Ahhh good to know. I saw somewhere about having to delete payment profiles. I guess that would mean I lose my credit card off Google pay and my NZ credit from the playstore.

I used the VPN service that came from my SmartDNSProxy account, which I think has a free trial, set it to Bangalore or Mumbai (I can't recall, but one worked and one didn't), then used my virtual card from Wise, and it worked no problems...

So I let my premium subscription expire today but was having no end of issues trying to resubscribe using Pure VPN set to Turkey IP. It kept offering me Premium for 11.99 in pounds stirling - not what I wanted. As it turns out it was the VPN service that was part of the issue. I borrowed a friend's Nord VPN and I was successful.

Here is the combination of actions I took today - which worked:

  • Connected to NordVPN with Turkish IP address.
  • Changed my address in Google Account Settings to the NZ Embassy in Turkey (not sure this was required but did it anyway).
  • Created a new payment profile in Google Account Settings->Payments & Subscriptions->Manage Payment Methods and used the above Turkish address.
  • Deleted my NZ payment profile (I don't use Google Pay for anything else anyway)
  • Log into Youtube and set region to Turkey (not sure this is actually necessary or not).
  • Click on Purchases & Memberships, where I saw new offers in Turkish currency (TRY).
  • Selected one year subscription for TRY29.99 (about NZ$25)
  • Transaction complete and done.

This video is not great quality, but it helped me work it out - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4NoSg1fsB8&t=490s

[EDIT: Corrected spelling]

Charged $5.27 yesterday. Guess it’s working.

I just fired up a VM in Turkey for Wireguard as I don't trust VPN providers.

Happy to give Wireguard access to anyone who is either trusted, ID verified or has over 100 posts to save hunting for a VPN provider. You just need the Wireguard client installed.

Edit: Everything except Google see this VM in Turkey. I'll leave it up anyway as I've paid for a year (was one of the lowendbox VM's). Hoping Google eventually update the IP Location to be in Turkey. Ended up using my old Lifetime Getflix account's VPN to get cheap YouTube using the above method.

Has anyone been able to use the Turkey trick in the last couple of days? When I try the subscription price is NT$179.00/month...doesn't look right to me.

@LittleDude exchange rate. You’re charged in Turkish lira but then your card company converts it. I just used my wise account.

@michaelmurphy But what I'm seeing does not look like Turkish Lira. I have subscribed via India and Argentina previously but credit card has now been rejected(ARG).

Update: Tried numerous times through WindScribe and WeVPN using FireFox extensions and their full VPNs. Sometimes YT would show the wrong country but always the wrong currency(usually NT, even got CAD).

Finally remembered I had an old life-time licence for GetFlix. An IP trace didn't look like it was working properly but I was able to sign up in Turkish Lira equivalent to $NZD 2.58.

Yep, that’s what I reported worked for me about a month ago; has to be some benefit for paying for a ‘lifetime’ sub that has otherwise generally been a total waste of money! I ended up with a month’s free (a trial I assume) as I got my first charge on the credit card of $5.28 last Saturday (this is for Family).

$5.28 seems like a fair price for the mostly dross that comes into the house from YT each month.

I can't seem to get this to work, tricky to get a vpn that actually gets through Turkey, but when I do it gives me a message that it "couldn't verify your country" message when I try to go and sign up for premium. I'll try some other VPNs tonight and see if I have better luck, but it may be bcause I still have a NZ payment profile. I have made a Turkish one also. Did you have to delete your NZ one? I'm guessing if I do, then google pay on the phone won't work any longer. Can you still purchase things from the play store? What currency does it charge you?

If you are doing it via your mobile you can only have the Turkish account / payment account on the phone, if you have any other google account it will give you errors etc.

So if you have a spare phone around set that up with only the turkish gmail account you created and give it ago

I did mine on my PC. I added a Turkish address under Google payments and changed my location on YouTube. I used the same VISA that was I using for Argentina and India before that.

It does sound like numerous VPNs cannot fake Turkey that well. Perhaps we need to compile a list of working and non-working ones...

It just so happens my phone died over the weekend so I've got a spare and before I fully set it up, I thought I'd try without any Google account loaded. No joy so far, I'll have another go via of and vpn tonight.

I'm trying to get premium family, so I'm using my regular google account due to that one already being the administrator of the Google family. Maybe it just won't work in this situation.

I took a very quick 10-minute flight to Turkey from Argentina and switched my YouTube account settings to Turkey with my VISA after YouTube said premium from Argentina would stop soon unless payment method is updated. Costs TRY$59.99 I think a month (around NZD$5/month for YT premium with Family for five accounts incl YT Music. Was around NZD$2.50 with Argentina. The cost of living is going up.

Do whatever you want to do man.
