Ok, what I quoted the three symptoms is from the MoH website. Its clear that some GP's are not playing their part if they fob you off. The catch 22 is in part caused by GP's like this who wont entertain a patients call. How much that overloads the 0800 number I'm unsure. Someone else reported in the media took an hour to get through, so one would asusme that everyone is calling them? Maybe everyone with a sniffle? Or they get fobbed off by the GP?

What do you suggest?

I have it from a very reliable source that the Ministry of Health are about to add a lot capacity to their 0800 service.

As long as they have the appropriate training and skills.....

Which I believe is heavily influenced by our poor level of management skills in New Zealand. I did not care if a staff member had any sick leave if they were genuinely sick I paid them to stay home. It paid off in the long run. Many, many managers have a very narrow minded view on this and clearly prefer their staff to continue working when sick.

Young people seem to be fairly resistant to covid-19 (unlike flu).

But, if you are old, obese, or have hypertension, or smoke, the mortality rate is high. If you have all of these factors and catch covid-19, you have a very high chance of dying.

People with kidney disease or who are reliant on chinese manufactured drugs are at risk too , because there will be shortages of medicines and drugs due to Chinese supply chain breakdowns.   This hasn't occurred yet, but , just wait.

There will be no vaccine to rescue us in the near to medium term. That is click-bait.

This is just the start too -- I feel the government is reacting rather than planning.

Yes, it also makes you wonder how long governments can keep young, healthy people locked up in there homes, which is what has happened in Italy.

Everyone both the young & old has been placed into isolation. I can see it working for a 2-4 weeks before frustration kicks in & the quarantine collapses.

Its all about flattening the curve, so the health system doesn't collapse...

Not sure if this ones been posted, its a fast moving thread 😳

This is the 60 minutes article on the likely cause.  It was infuriating watching, as this is clearly just a repeat of SARS.  Real pressure needs to go on governments that allow wet market behaviours like those seen in Wuhan

For all those that are having the GP > MoH > GP run around.

Doctor takes to the car park to test for coronavirus

All the Doctor has to do is throw on some PPE & grab a swab test kit, (2-3 min's) then walk out to the car park, up the nose with the swab, give some advice, strip off & dispose of PPE outside of practice, walk back in, package and document swab. Total time 10-15. Which is the standard NZ GP allocated time for a visit. Charge the standard charge if required.

Come on Kiwi's we can think outside the box better than the Aussie's can.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Protecting your toilet paper from the King of England is a God-given constitutional right.

You say that if you are old the mortality rate is high. So, how old is "old"? And what is the high mortality rate in percentage terms?

You post is a bit alarmist, but I guess if you're over 80, something's going to get you sooner or later!

IIRC wet market for wild animaols was banned after SARS. Who caused Spanish Flu, MERS, and any of the many that did not originate from China?

Active viruses are everywhere. There are 10 billion bats on Earth, but youi can catch it from certain cats and camels as well.

Its a global issue.

in China such bans are only temporarily enforced.

Lurking here forever and surprised this has finally motivated me to post.

In the car at lunchtime listened to the first 15 min of Michael Osterholm US biosecurity/disease expert discuss Covid-19 on Joe Rogan's podcast. Makes a lot of sense and can't wait to hear the rest.

On YouTube if you don't have a podcast app. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3URhJx0NSw
