Looking at both sides of the coin, I can understand why they’ve applied it this way. Often those who decline vaccination will have dependents, having the welfare as an option provides a safety mat.

I don't see why people who leave jobs who also have dependents should be treated differently when it comes to a stand-down/cooling-off period.

They should at the very least be treated the same, even if it is admittedly poorly. But in no way should vaccine-hesitant people get priority treatment.

@tdgeek, you're right, sorry...that wasn't the best wording, I've changed it.

She does not mention the High Court decision in the article. If or when she does get vaccinated and her job back, I would not like to be in her 'human rights' class ! The biasses will be exponential.

"How can a Government do this to people... we've got teachers who've been there for 20 or 30 years and they literally get handed a one-week stand-down [period] or you're out. It's barbaric, it's revolting".

How long a warning has ALL these people had !

Then the article says: She went on to say even if she didn't have the blood condition she wouldn't get the vaccine because she thinks mandates are a "human rights" issue.

Again, another member of the selfish society and if that is her stance and interpretation of Human Rights, then she should not be teaching.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

She is welcome to her protest. She is welcome to her choice. Those are examples of her rights in action.

She's just unable to accept that her actions have consequences. That's what she's actually complaining about.

I should also add I'm fairly cynical when it comes to teachers but by and large almost all of them have been vaccinated, even if reluctantly, so they've done a bang-up job there with getting the message out.

Of course, we're going to hear more from the ones who think having tenure of service means they shouldn't have to follow public health orders during a pandemic. One of my parents works part time in a school as a support worker. She has a right to a safe workplace; none of these idiots ever seen to understand their rights end where others' begin.

The site is very busy - I got several "Too Many Requests" messages, fixed with the F5 key.

How to get My Vaccine Pass

Requesting your pass only takes a few minutes and will be emailed to you within 24 hours.

The quickest way to get your pass is through your My Covid Record ... [ https://mycovidrecord.health.nz/ ]

If you are unable to login to My Covid Record or are experiencing any other issues with requesting your Vaccine Pass, please be patient.
My Vaccine Pass will not be needed for another several weeks. If you can wait for a few days, it can help ease any demand on the IT system and call centre staff.

Login to My Covid Record: go to "Request pass or certificate" > "Select a pass or certificate"

I got an email with my PDF pass document within seconds. 🙂

I think some of this comes from the American values(?) system of "I have a right to freedom". Yes, yes you do, but that doesn't meant you're free of consequences for your choices.

Sure, you don't need to have the vaccine, your choice. But it's also the school's choice not to employ you for health and safety reasons (if that makes sense).

Yep done and dusted for myself and partner. It took about 10 minutes with some page refreshes but otherwise very simple exercise.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

This is the real issue for me, and it seems nobody wants to talk about it. I have no doubt this will be our future you only need to look overseas to see most highly vaccinated countries are locking down again months after opening up.

I personally think we'll have parts of NZ locked down through early to mid 2022 and ongoing issues with hospital capacity for a long while yet. Let everyone out to enjoy some Christmas cheer but at what long term cost?

I wonder (don't know, just wonder) if some of it does not come from an earlier generation, now grown up and working as teachers, that experienced a cotton wool upbringing where no-one ever failed or lost out or came second or had any impulse or whim denied. The result is adults, even teachers, who simply cannot comprehend anything beyond their 'right' to do any spoiled brat thing they like. They simply cannot see a connection between their personal freedom and someone else's personal injury.
