This was the one big ideological blind spot in the government's response. With that plugged and provided people stay the course during level 4, we might yet be the first western country to manage to eliminate COVID-19. Fingers crossed.
This is very very good news, do we have test numbers from yesterday? If they are up to the same or more test numbers from the last few days the percentage drop is big.
It does show that the test plan was the right plan.

The other big thing from today's conference that the decision on level 4 continuance or which level will apply will be made 2 days before on 20 April so Government can make a call based on the latest figures.
I wonder how they are going to manage the asymptomatic and sub-clinical cases that could be sitting there waiting to be let out into the wider population.
How many people are there that have ‘a bit of a tickly throat’ that haven’t met the threshold to be tested? It is after all the start of the cold and flu season. It only takes one to become patient zero in a new outbreak. I’m assuming that’s what the second two weeks of the lockdown seek to achieve.
The authorities (quite rightly) crash dived the submarine into the lockdown and have then been trimming things out in the depths. The difficult part will be getting back to the surface.
I wish the antibody tests were widely available.

The PM did say as well today that we will only move as far as Level 3 from where we are now and that this is a marathon not a sprint.

At long last ! The experts and public had been calling for this to happen for weeks..

Commentary around this had strongly suggested we'd have a firm idea around the 10th - hopefully we get some stronger indications then "we'll give you two day's notice". There's a very limited number of trading days between the 23rd and the Friday in the following week, when 1st of month payments (for most, rents) will be due again.

I wish we had competent journalists. This one question they should be asking. We have been testing asymptomatic/pre-symptomatic people (usually close contacts like the school down south). I would like to know if anybody in NZ has tested positive without any symptoms.

Ths UK exeprience shows that these are mostly useless so far:
In a blog post, the University of Oxford academic explained: "Sadly, the tests we have looked at to date have not performed well." He added, "We see many false negatives and we also see false positives...This is not a good result for test suppliers or for us."
The British government ordered 3.5 million of the antibody tests, largely from China, last month. A provisional order of 17.5 million kits was placed with nine companies, including some in the U.K., the Daily Telegraph noted. But Bell said none were reliable enough to roll out for mass testing.
