Health Minister Dr David Clark is the "very definition of a 'non-essential worker'" and has "humiliated" the Director-General of Health, Todd Muller says.

But Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says the pair get along and rejects the portrayal of them as clashing.

Last week saw a border testing bungle where two women were released from managed isolation without a test and days later found they had COVID-19. Since then, it has emerged that 51 people were let out early without being tested.

Ardern and Dr Clark have previously said that leaving without a test is unacceptable and that they had been informed testing was occurring in facilities on day three and day 12 of guests' stay. Director-General of Health Dr Ashley Bloomfield has taken responsibility for gaps in protocols, something Dr Clark has been less than willing to also do.

Air NZ have absolutely no ability to verify documents in foreign countries, whether they be from Testing centres or Doctors,

Asking them to do so is simply setting them up for failure....

You'll notice that Vietnam is doing significantly *better* than us, so islands and even remoteness from China aren't determining factors.

It also said 45 passengers on Emirates flights from Dubai over the weekend either were confirmed or probable cases.

NB: Plural "flights". And one confirmed case on a plane automatically makes all the nearby passengers probable. So 3 actual cases easily becomes 45 confirmed or probable.

A doctor's letter is probably pretty much worthless anyway. All the doctor can do is to check your temperature, and ask some questions. Answer correctly ("Do you have a dry cough?" "Errgggghhhummm, No.") and you get the letter.

I have never suggested AIRNZ was responsible for 'verify' the documents.

( & I suspect its a crime to submit knowingly 'false' documents to an Airline or Immigration? )

What this idea would achieve is stopping anyone 'honest' from unknowingly flying to NZ with an active virus.
(Like those two UK ladies)

(Relivant maybe for non-English countries where test results may not be in English

Which is why - if we still got too many coming from these destinations - we simply stop flying from there (thoes countries Dr's / testing/documentation can't be trusted)

yes but between the dr's letter and flying 24 hrs and coming in close contact with 1,000 people ... I'm not sure how the "full" test is relevant

Along with Cambodia. And possibly Myanmar (assuming the figures for the latter are reliable - I have no info either way about that)

Which countries that their Drs/Testing/Documentation cannot be trusted? I don't trust anyone from any country inc NZ. It's not the doctors or the countries I don't trust. It's the humans. If they're a homo sapien I don't trust them.

If you recall everybody accused the 2 british women of lying about meeting with people in AKL, lying about not stopping driving AKL WTG, (and I gave them the benefit of the doubt saying we did not hear this from the women, only from the media/Dr A).

So if they were indeed lying, I suggest you ban all Europeans and only allow the Asians (they seem to obediently wear masks etc, their countries have low Covid cases etc)!

How about that pesky 25-30% false negative rate?

This figure was confirmed by Dr Ashley, I think it was in yesterdays stand up or possibly the day before.
