msukiwi:

Melbourne just announced:

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has announced Stage three restrictions will be introduced for all of Melbourne from midnight tomorrow.

The new lockdown will last for at least six weeks.

"You will be able to go out to go to work if you have to, to go shopping for the things you need when you need them, to study, to provide care or to get care," he said.

Does anyone still think our government did the wrong thing here?

Just showing their true blue colours. And Michelle Boag, as head of a health organisation, leaking it?

These people make a joke of our Privacy laws. And the joke is even bigger when nothing is done to get their dues for breaking the law.

I would serious hope the law is applied here where it is needed. Something so blatant from these people they should be sacked and stripped of everything immediately.

Handle9:

What rhetoric from Mueller are you talking about?

There must be something in the water in the Clutha electorate. First Todd Barclay now this xenophobic piece of work.

He came on stream with a pitch to not criticise for the sake of it, and he's worse than Simon. Moreover a lot of his rhetoric is generic, he needs to fire some detail. Its like the border comments, fires shots, gets asked what he would do, he said he doesnt know. Come out and say what he would do better, but we dont hear that. Thats not accountability.

Its a good example of the consequences of opening early. We were pressured after literally two weeks that its too much. For sure, no one then knew the best option, but with the evidence overseas, taking an ironic conservative view was safer health wise. As its worked out, its been safer economy wise.

Freaking hell, bring back Simon.

Nah. Fire Boag as a starting point.

People at DHBs get fired for inappropriate access to patient information. What Boag has done is a huge step beyond that, intentionally disseminating it to a third party. Whether or not she thought he would pass it on to the media is no excuse. And, why else did he want it?

MP Hipkins stated that criminal charges could occur, depending on the outcome. Boag was privy to the data in the role she had then. She gave it to the Clutha MP. The Clutha MP leaked it. No further questions your honour.

Good on Todd Muller stripping his portfolio, but come on its not an error of judgement. Its dirty politics.

The rhetoric from Muller and now this, bring back Simon. I never liked him for a variety of reasons, but where do we draw the line on gutter politics ? We are trying to conquer and mitigate a global disaster, and we now have to read this in the news.

Excuse my language but this is completely fxxxxxxg unbelievable.

What narcissistic cretins think this behaviour is acceptable.

You release extremely sensitive medical information no real reason for political point scoring.

Sack the guy and kick him out of your party.

If a medical person did this they would he sacked by morning and struck off by medical council destroying a career that took decades to establish.

Nothing else is acceptable.

My mention of Simon was tongue in cheek, but I'll be frank, Frank, SB is a better leader

I think it is a good example of Victoria only doing a level 3.5 lockdown , instead of a level 4 one. Plus a high level of compliance in NZ. I remember all the people in the media, and politicians criticizing how tough NZs lock-down was, when compared to Australia's.  Where instead the NZ government stuck to their guns, and continued to say that our lock-down was go tough -  go  early.  NZ actually relaxed and went back to normal earlier than Australia, and infact Australia has never gotten down to level 1 yet, although some states may almost be there, and some are still doing well. But Australia is only as good as their weakest state . I think NZ owes a lot of our success down to some of the Otago University experts who kept pushing the government to 'eliminate' rather than just flatten the curve and suppress it. NZs plan initially appear to be  following Australias plan of suppression . We do also need to remember that Australia did always say they they may need to go in and out of lockdown as part of the suppressing process. So if a country doesn't have an elimination strategy, then this is what can happen, in order to suppress it. I suspect the UK will also go back into some form of lockdown in the next few months, because already some bars are closing again after opening, after new cases. https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-pubs-close-again-after-punters-test-positive-for-covid-19-12022747  . It is a mess for businesses to try an operate in a COVID environment.

And the chief input to the continual criticism of our lockdown was the economic cost. We bore it once, now while we are recovering and rebuilding, elsewhere are commencing March 2020 measures. They threw away 3 months of cost, economy, inconvenience and life. Its 7 July here and 29 March elsewhere.

I would hope that Boag and Walker are required to defend their actions in court.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.
