My thought is his machismo has killed ten of thousands of Brazilians.

Credit to the French but they are having a criminal inquiry into their Covid-19 response (30K deaths so far and at this time higher proportionally than Brazil). Their former prime minister and other senior figures are subject to this inquiry

I wonder whether other countries e.g. the UK, Sweden, Spain, Italy etc (all who have a higher proportional death rate than Brazil) will do the same, I can't see it occurring in the short term in USA and Brazil

He played a Trump card.

Along the lines of, if I didn't get tested. Then I wouldn't have known.

Nevermind the 3:1 ratio that comes with it

It is looking really bad in Oz. So glad we didn't open our travel bubble with Oz early, despite all the calls from the media and politicians. It looks like some other states have got their first new cases in a long time from this outbreak. They are talking tough over there are well, including talking about restricting incoming international travelers, and making them pay for the managed isolation.

It is funny how there hasn't been much talk of a NZ-oz travel bubble recently.

Unsurprising spread out of Victoria into NSW and ACT

https://7news.com.au/news/nsw/coronavirus-cases-in-new-south-wales-rise-as-liverpool-hospital-is-potentially-exposed-to-virus-c-1152741

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-07-08/act-records-three-new-coronavirus-cases/12434772

The first ACT case in a month and the first local case there in over 11 weeks (all three in the same household - two of them ex Vic)

In the NSW case the visitor received a negative result before leaving Victoria, then after arriving in NSW was advised a mistake had been made.  A timely reminder that the testing regimes are not fail proof.

And inevitable Vic border teething problems

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-07-08/nsw-coronavirus-breach-as-passengers-from-melbourne-not-screened/12433286

And of course, more at the road borders

NSW considering a second line of defense on their side of the border

kingdragonfly: My thoughts and prayers go out to Brazil president Jair Bolsonaro.

My thought is his machismo has killed ten of thousands of Brazilians.

I'm praying that his coronavirus infection does a Brazilan samba on his body, and plays his lungs like a pair of Maracabasa.

It didn't seem to make any difference to Boris Johnson. :(

Seems that some people returning to NZ just arbitrarily decided to break the quarantine rules and go out shopping, putting others at risk. Can be relieved that so far no one has fallen ill as yet.

In other news flights are going to be limited to reduce stress on the quarantine hotels, and there are bill of rights act concerns, though you could argue war, natural disasters, and disease as exceptional circumstances.

The country got pretty much locked in their houses for 4-5 weeks and we did what we had to,

Given what has been seen with MIQ in NZ ( and OZ) I think there is little sympathy for the " I have the right to return" flag being waved in our face a the moment...

Meh, seems to me like everyone who wants to return, can - just ar our leisure, not theirs. It's not a "no, you can't ", more a "yup, please wait your turn". Kinda takes the wind out of "right to return's" sails really.

New Zealands testing rate is still very low, despite being called out by the Minster earlier this week. . Yesterday about 3000 tests, which would also include those in hotels. I wish they would either exclude those, as they are outside the border tests. Or  break them down into border tests, and community tests. We obviously reduce the chance of picking up any possible community tests, if we aren't doing much community testing.

There is up to a 2 week delay though, due to the incubation period. .

Australia's outbreak could be partly down to the rallies that occurred several weeks ago, which the government tried to stop via court, to prevent this sort of thing occurring

If there are 6000 in quarantine they get tested twice. On average 400+ add and leave the facilities daily, and there would be 400 Day 3 tests and 400 day 12 tests on average, so we must be testing well over 2000 daily in the community, including doctor referrals and sentinel.

and seemingly no remorse from that man .

Unfortunate that we have to now expect the worst behavior from some of those in quarantine .
perhaps a shock to the system is needed (jail time) in order to convince others to comply 100% .
