Hi,
Anyone tried these guys, shaveunion.co.nz, tripped over them last night, a shaver "subscription".

For a "five o'clock shadow at noon" guy like me they suggest six blades every month, currently I am not changing my old Gillettes that often, but that said these are under half the price.

I got my last Gillette blades online, 25% off NZ prices. Just checked and they're out of stock of everything so I won't link to them, but it's possible to save on them. I tried Schick a while back and wasn't as happy with the general feel so kept using Gillette. There's a huge shaving thread around here somewhere.

get a safety razor and learn to use it.

Blades are 50c or less and last at least 2 shaves (and that is with wild boar quality hair) - I get at least 4.

Have been using one for about 9 months - it isn't hard and the shave is as good or better.

Or get a safety razor like a goodfella and pay less than $20 for 4 years worth of blades  ;)

Heh I use Gillette 5 blade flagship razers, and I clearly don't have coarse facial hair because I'll easily get 15 shaves or more from them, including the fact I shave in the shower!

Yeah I use the Gillette 5 blades as well and also get a good two weeks out of a blade.

Will look into those safety razors though...

I like Derby's - good blades. Otherwise Feather, Astra Platinum. Did not like Gillette, Tiger, Big Ben.

They aren't expensive - http://www.mancave.co.nz/products/shaving/razors/safety-razors/merkur-42-1904-razor

Y
ou can use standard shaving cream/gel if you like, but I'd recommend Proraso (http://www.mancave.co.nz/brand/proraso/proraso-shaving-cream-mug-euclayptus-menthol) and a brush (http://www.mancave.co.nz/products/shaving/shaving-brushes/semogue-1438-boar-shaving-brush)

The above are cheap options - depends how deep down the rabbit hole you want to go - You can spend $200 on a brush and $400 on a razor...

Once you master the safety razor then you can start looking at straight razors - getting my first one next month.

Yep - for the price they are real good.   I get two weeks per blade - 1 week (5 shaves) per edge.

The other plus is that with a single blade your razer does not get blocked up like the 4-5 blade gillettes etc..

I use the Ozzy Dollar Shave Club, free shipping to NZ, I use the 4 blade. $7 Ozzy per month for 4 blades a month, there is also an option to just get blades every second month. I broke the handle a few weeks ago by dropping it, they sent out another one, no charge.

Ive been using it for a couple of months.  They are ok, not stellar. I think I get a better shave from my old 5 blade Gillette Fusion though.  I opted for the 4 every two months though as I cant be bothered shaving all that often :p

Wow, I must have very fine stubble (Doesn't feel that way, quite coarse but slow growing). I use Gillette 5 Blade, and one head will last me about 2-3 months. I shave every two days (work doesn't care) in the shower.

Pretty sure the missus uses it as well. Admittedly it is pretty blunt at the 2 month mark, and I swap it when it hurts too much. At my rate of use, I find the Gillettes very good value.

I bought my last blades online (can't remember where right now) and saved about 25% cf Supermarket here.

Wow, I use one head per week, two at most. After that it's less comfortable. I shave every day.

Wow.. I use a Gillette Quatro disposable, comes in packs of 3 (or 4 if they are on offer) for around $10

I tend to get 8-10 weeks per razor with 6-7 shaves a week, and I've never ever seen a razor last this well. I always use very hot water and shaving gel (not foam)

Most triple blade razors last around a week at most.

Clearly there is a great amount of variance in:

1. People's facial hair and
2. People's tolerance for a rubbish/painful shave

To the same - I cannot use electric razors, some people swear by them.
