Maybe I’m the only one that is getting tired of the “this car vs an EV in a drag race” but (IMO) it smacks of making out that EVs are a one trick pony. So much more to them than 0-100 acceleration or fastest over a quarter mile.

I didn’t even bother to watch the video because (I assume) the Tesla would win. But how about if they ran the race, say, six times in a row? I assume the Tesla’s battery protection would kick in to prevent ludicrous mode destroying the battery. The Lamborghini would fail due to (ultra expensive) mechanical breakdown or running out of petrol.

Its carwow's schtick, but drag races existed a long time before EVs..

I watched a half hour ish comparison of an X7, GLS and Model X last night. It had a drag race in it, the Model X didn't even win and it was about 1 minute of the overall video. I think maybe you are experiencing the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon

@dingbatt I skimmed through that video and they did a few different test including brake tests. A couple of wins for each car, but not a huge amount either way. Basically what they are saying is they are both very high performance cars in their own right.

A lot of these videos stem from the myth that still floats around that "EVs are slow". At this point most of us understand that that isn't true and like you, I don't really watch these drag race EV vs ICE videos anymore because it's usually fairly apparent what the outcome will be.

Not so long ago contemporary thinking was that you needed big cubes, a blower and maybe NOS to win drag races. Now days turbo's are the way to go. Tomorrow people may realise that electric is the new best thing, and when that happens it will do nothing but encourage electric street cars.

Don't forget that the Teslas were designed to dispel the poor range and poor performance image EV's had, so you wouldn't be wrong to argue that a Tesla racing a super car is doing what it was made to do.

I watch a video like that and find it very interesting.

I was a big Lambo fan when it was the Countach and then when it was the Diablo.  Now I wouldn't be interested in owning one.  If I had won that $50M Lotto powerball a while back I wouldn't have spent any on a Lambo or Ferrari and I probably wouldn't have bought a Model S either.  I'd have bought a Model 3 Performance because a top speed of 260kph and a 0-100 time of 3.2s would be plenty enough to make me happy.

When I was a teenager (several decades ago) I used to read about supercars with 0-100 times like 6s, now a Model 3 can hit 100kph in about half the time.  What more could you want for driving on public roads?

Something that can hold the road with a 5G lateral load?

Well, as long as your requirements are realistic and reasonable I guess that is fair enough . . .

Tesla Model Y Engineering is "A Step Beyond"

TMIO Tesla

Elon Musk believes the Tesla Model Y will be "a step beyond" in a few key areas, despite Model Y production coming to a halt at the Fremont factory. the real question is will Model y cannibalise the Tesla Model 3 or the Model X?

The lockdown has seen my EV (30kWh LEAF) being used very little. Just to the supermarket and back. It's about 3km round trip. Once a week, but was a couple of times / week in the first week or so.

I charge it from solar on my house. Last charge was Tuesday, March 21st. Just over 3 weeks ago. I had charged it to 80%. It's now on 62% after 30.2km. At this rate, I may not have to charge it for almost 2 more months. :-)

How is the lockdown affecting your EV?

Leaf still being used as normal by the other half but 10km per day well within range.

More worried about the ICE, that 12V is probably getting low..

My Model 3 needs to recharge around maybe 1% per week after a weekly trip to the supermarket. I miss driving it!

It's in desperate need of a wash too, but without any rain over the last few months here in Auckland there's no water in the tanks to spare for a car wash
