I see Hyundai has released their new ioniq 6.

To me it looks very ‘Mercedes EQS’ like. With a few small flourishes so they can’t be accused of copying someone else’s work.

Looks more like the Lightyear 0 though I doubt the tech comes anywhere close to this futuristic concept.

VW ID.4 and ID.5 launching in NZ from 2023. Both 77kWh (usable, total is 82kWh) battery packs for 450 - 500km of range.

ID.Buzz & ID.Cargo in the second half of 2023.

No ID.3, no smaller battery pack options on ID.4 & ID.5 assume VW is positioning itself as a premium player in the NZ market.

Not hard to agree with you on that.

Saw an interview with one of the designers. And my impression is that there was some conservatism in the company and that the design also met with reality.

Really easy to make a graphic design of a cool car, fairly easy to make a concept car, but not so easy to make that into a car that will pass regulations and is possible to produce.

But yeah, the concept looks a lot better than the actual car. Still like the design of the car they ended up producing.

I see in today’s NZHerald (‘Driven’ section) Volvo have announced the XC40 and C40 Recharge prices and their release in NZ this year. No attempt to offer anything under the rebate limit.

Ranging from $84K to $98K for the XC40 and $86K to $101K for the C40.

I still like its looks. The panel van could make a good camper.

It's on the small side. Perhaps could be made to work, but a bed would take up pritty much the entire rear, so it would be more of a sleeper van.

4.712m external length, less than an toyota estima. And the pillar behind the front doors sits about half way along visually (despite cab over styling, the seats are quite a long way back.

Cargo space listed as 3.9 m^3 (a NV200 is 4.2m^3).

Payload 650kg.

Australian prices for the Kia Niro EV released. Hopefully even the top of the range one will still be less than 80,000 New Zealand

More details on LDVs EV ute

My first thought is "It must be built with girders" with only a WLTP range of 325km off an 88Kwh battery,

A Polestar 2 gets over 500km from 79Kwh with a 170Kw motor, both have a 1500kg towing capacity....

"A single model will be available to the New Zealand buyer, with an 88.5kw/h battery and a 130kW/310Nm permanent magnet electric motor driving the rear wheels, offering a respectable 325km range, based on the stringent WLTP test regime and the maximum braked tow rating is 1,500kg"

"Drive-away pricing of $79,990 includes GST and all on-road costs and qualifies for the government’s clean car rebate of $8,625."

That's 264wh / km..... Assuming 86kWh available.

325/86=0.264kWh

As efficiency goes, that's not the best by a long way.

Well I have just put down a deposit for the Atto 3 which I can get fully refunded if I don't like the car (well if my wife doesn't like the car :-) ) when I test drive after 23 July.  Apparently as of a couple of days ago the Wellington dealer had 45 orders already and the ship has 300 cars, all the LR model. This is $57990 + ORC

New new Toyota EV , BZ4x , based on the UK price released, it looks like it will be over the 80k rebate in NZ. I see the Subaru Version is also coming, but no mention on price. People who want the reliability of a Jap brand like Toyota will be holding out for some Japanese EVs.  With NZs high inflation, I think they may need to raise the limit. The problem when governments set these figures, but don't tie them to inflation, so they become less and less relevant. With house prices dropping and a likely recession, I can't see as many people buying EVs, and paying over 80k for a car. Maybe there will be more lease deals, and more people will lease instead of buy. Although I see one bank is offering a special loan to add onto the house house, which allows for purchasing an EV...
