I watched Highway Patrol earlier tonight and they pinched two car loads of absolute morons with a collective IQ of less than a whole number for racing at 148kmh on the public highway - and the drivers had the temerity to lose their tempers because their licences were suspended on the spot.

Well, it's a good thing we have that 4km/hr speed tolerance then, or we'd have to let those guys go.

For anyone who has Mazda 3 GLX (with a type B speedo, not the type A found in SP25's), you will know how close together the markings on the speedo are, and also how wide the needle is
This morning I had cruise set at 104km/h and at a casual glace, there is almost zero difference in the position of the speedo needle between doing 100km and 110km.

Which is another reason I wish I had paid more and got a SP25 with a digital speedo reading

EDIT: Corrected the speedo letters after looking up the owners manual

Which is all very well, except that *no* speedo in *any* car is that accurate. It may display speeds with 1kph precision, but, because car speedos are (typically) driven from the gearbox, they are subject to variations in accuracy of +/- 5kph or so, depending on tyre pressure and wear. (Low tyre pressure and/or less tread will cause the speedo to read higher; high pressure and/or more new tyres will cause it to read lower).

That would nullify the effect of people who speed up at passing lanes.

Yes they would. It has been suggested that many of those who do this are doing so subcoiciously (yes - I know I spelt that really badly!!!! LOL)

This subject just goes around in circles and doesn't seem to achieve anything more than entertain GZ members.

Here's my opinion, for what it is worth. I know when I have gone over the speed limit and accept that if I get a ticket i will pay the price. In all my 43 years of driving I haven't had a huge amount of traffic tickets and of those never thought I was in the right, or wronged.

So what is it about people that are wanting to contest everything when in reality they knew they were breaking the law. Is it just a huge sense of indignation that someone dares to question tier driving habits or just an inflated sense of entitlement.

If you don't like the law as it stands then vote someone into power that will change it but don't pick and choose what you want to conform with,, basically take it on the chin and move on.

oh and thankyou to those that do break the law and pay fines it's a good way to collect money for the Government (taxpayer)
