Driving gets a little more annoying once the weekend starts. I think it is a number of factors including the people who drive less often are out on the roads.

Here I was driving down a very busy street (Riccarton Road) & I flashed my lights to allow someone into the stream of traffic. So far so good but she actually wanted to make a u turn! She hesitated, then started the U turn & stopped mid-way as she wasn't able to complete the turn. After about 20 seconds someone took pity on her and let her in. The miracle was that no-one tooted at me or abused me for letting her in. No-one attempts U turns on Riccarton Road unless it's about 5 am!

Some people shouldn't be allowed out on their own. You see this sort of thing all the time.

While I agree with your decision to let them in, (you had no idea they were going to be so stupid) in a way it also validates their decision to do what they did. They achieved what they wanted do do and most likely were so disconnected with what was happening around them never realised the chaos they potentially caused, or worse just plain didn't care.

This stopping and letting people in has got ridiculous People coming out of driveways having been there for a short period of time while we have been in the queue for ages You have people breaking the rules all the time not stopping at stop signs as an example to get into the traffic some people seem to think they have the rght now just to push their way in They seem to think it is a road rule. Do we let people push in front of us in the supermarket. I wonder how many minor dings there are because of this. Just last week saw a car tailgate the one in front who had stopped suddenly to let a car coming out of a school drop of zone. I know we have all carried out this action to let people in but one day someone is going to get killed. If the police want gather some revenue go and sit out some these stop zone and watch what happens. The Cambridge Road Newells road (Waikato) Is a perfect example. I dont know how we are going to stop this bad development

I tend to let large trucks and buses know with a light flash go ahead and change lanes if they are stuck. They get in quick.

With increased traffic volume merge is critical. Sometimes there is like 2km to merge or change and some people insist on doing it immediately. Holds up two lanes. Unfortunately there will always be someone and 0.1% is all it takes.

Merge like a zip is not enough information on merge strategy for some drivers.

i so much agree with this , there's a intersection in Rotorua on Ranolf St where there is a stop sign and it's about 50 metres from traffic lights. You can be in the queue for 5 minutes and then when the light is green someone will always stop and let the cars waiting in but it gets to the point where cars are not even stopping, they just keep going so by the time the lights are red you have move 30-40 metres but everyone has moved from the side road. Everytime. i now hang back and go around the stopped car and you should see the near accidents as people have to obey the road rules and stop.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

We just witnessed a near head-on. Absolute idiots on red racing motorbikes, in the hills between rotorua and tauranga. First one passed us on a moderate sweeping left hand bend. I was astounded, why would someone do that?

Then his idiot friend also passed us also on a bend.... but, there was an oncoming car he didn't see , and it was a split second from a head on collision. He sharply weaved his bike out of the way in the last second and would have been close to losing control.

Makes me mad, too bad i don't have the dashcam running atm.

Sound more like a bad place for the intersection, next to a road that can't clear itself. Probably needs some form of merge. Problem is there has been such a big population growth, without investment in infrastructure to cope with it. So the roads haven't been designed for big queues. Living on a main road, it can almost be impossible to get out of the driveway due to all the traffic, so if people didn't let me out and break up the traffic flow, I would still be waiting!

Yesterday I'm cruising along SH6 in Nelson at ban on 100km. Some muppet makes a right hand turn out of out of a side street pretty much right in front of me. Slammed anchors on, steered to right slightly and grazed around the back of them. No damage, but a few sore necks.

Good brakes on the Mazda 3 BTW. When you really slam them on, the hazard lights flash and the brake pedal feels different. Must have some sort of emergency brake boost system. Big paws on the SP25 model, which no doubt helps.

I have the base model Mazda 3 and only pressed in hard once and yes - they do feel different and I did notice some extra flashing on the dash (though I was concentrating on what I was doing, rather than the dash)

A manoeuvre like that will activate electronic stability control, electronic brake force distribution, and emergency brake assist. The latter is probably what makes the pedal feel different as it increases the hydraulic pressure.

My Mazda3 has never been in the unfortunate position of having to use these features, but it makes me feel a lot better to know they're there.

I should clarify - both indicator lights on the dashboard flashed. I don't know if the external indicator lamps flashed. I'm assuming they did.

Yes, they will.

Some vehicles strobe the brake lights under panic braking, but Mazdas operate the hazard warning lights.

It seems a common thing in Europe that when braking unexpectedly (even if not an 'emergency' brake) that they put their hazards on.

For example, joining the back of a traffic jam or congestion on a motorway - they will put their hazards on to indicate they are stopping where you wouldn't normally expect them to stop. I though it was quite a good custom. Another good thing they do is when the motorways are congested, the cars in the 'fast' lane pull over as far as they can to the left (would be the right here) and the cars in the lane next to them move as far as is safe to their right (would be left here) so that if needed, emergency service vehicles can get down in between. I can only imagine if we did that here, some entitled plonker would drive straight up the middle :/
