Beaten fair and square. Surprised the ref stoped the fight, but AJ went down 4 tines, twice in the round it was stopped in. Ruiz went after him and never stopped.

It does. In the Michael Buffer buildup. Ruiz had one loss. Parker. AJ had 21 of 22 KO's. Parker.  But I dont rate Joe. I never rated AJ as the god either. He like Joe, often showed weakness against lesser opponents. Whyte is the obvious one. He can get hurt. Today when Ruiz clocked him, it hurt. Hit Ruiz he will keep coming. I expected AJ to get the big shot in then go wild and finish him off. Having said that, Ruiz never looked worried from the bell. A steamroller that wont stop.

IMHO, AJ met someone who will go toe to toe, fast hands, hit hard, and he had no answer. AJ could see from he start that he was more than competitive.

Ruiz said that was the first time he'd be put on the floor. I really thought AJ would recover in the 5th and 6th but just never seemed to get it back. Ruiz took a couple big hits and just kept coming forward. He seemed more calculated then unleashed at the right time. Eddie Hearn has already said re-match is coming back in UK. 

I just watched it again. early rounds AJ was happily chatting with his coach in between rounds. Easy match. In between rounds 5 and 6 and 6 and 7 he had no answer, he was asking what Ruiz will do, yeah, ok, il keep him on back foot. By then he had no idea what to do. He doesn't have the skills to match a fighter that keeps punching hard. So he also finds himself being wary, that makes his own job that much harder. he lacks what Ruiz has. Ruiz went down in R3, and was hit hard soon after that also. Kept on going. You can see why he's never been down in 32 fights.

Rematch wise, AJ has an advantage. Ok, I lost I know him better now, and he will prepare. But Ruiz still has faster hands, and an iron chin. Aj doesn't. 

Im not buying this BS over Mr Nice Guy Ruiz. Yeah he is, but when the bell goes, they have to fight. Didn't take long to see he is very competitive.

Take any sport you see the best vs the best, in boxing you hardly ever do.The hype, the build-up, the hype, the money, then the 36 minutes to make it legal. The top guys wont fight each other. Where is Fury? Where is Wilder? The top guys spar off against tier 2 top 15 boxers with 34 excuses why there is no MAIN event. 

But it does show that anyone can win right now. IF you are a true fighter. Having an 8 inch reach advantage and 6 foot 7 height made AJ a god. But as I always felt he isn't that good. He is excellent, he was never great.

Fury is better. Wilder is better.

I said Wilder is better than AJ. Boxing skills, no, but thats not what I said. In a match, Wilder all day long.

Reasons? AJ vs Whyte, Takam. Exposed. Very good against a past it Klitchko, I will give him that. Then the other wins are no names. Although thats typical of boxing, but you can rate AJ as Whyte, Takam, and being beaten in every dept by Ruiz. There is a clear pattern

Same for Joe. Exposed many times.

Agree with all of that - but that has always been the case to varying degrees.

I am just pleased that AJ - who has gone up and down in my estimations over the last few years - never struck me as unbeatable - rather the field was a bit meh eg. Klitschko old, JP lacked KO power and also not allowed to rumble, Takam/Povetkin fading, Molina/Brezeale meh, Martin rubbish etc.

Damn shame AJ and Deontay couldn't meet up, as that imo was THE fight that needed to happen - ah well....

I think this Ruiz win (and full credit to that man!) reshuffles the deck a little and now a different set of fights will be made. 

PS: Am STILL impressed with the showing Tyson Fury made against Deontay and would love to see that guy well and fighting someone decent again - ie. not the Schwarz fight, who looks very 2nd rate.

Dial111: I dunno, I can see it going either way. Wilder doesn’t like being punched back and tends to rely heavily on haymakers when it’s not going his way, his style is so unorthodox it leaves him way open and Fury exposed him.

All I know is Fury will beat both of them.

AJ underestimated Ruiz Jr and I bet he won’t do that again in the rematch. Hearn/AJ isn’t the A side so be interesting to see what the new kingmaker lays on the table.

I'd say Parker was right. But the big issue is you cant seem to hurt him. When he was knocked down in R3, he got up, and was hammered again shortly after. Not affected enough as he sent AJ to the floor twice in the same round. And boy can he hit, and what he does great is counter with big hits when he has been hit. Its easy to see now why he had never been down in 32 fights. If he was athletic he would be known as a top contender but his build makes him a joke and a journeyman. 

In the rematch, AJ has a problem. He cant do anything to make Ruiz easier to knock down, or get hurt as he doesn't, he is so tough. And he punches back, HARD. AJ in a training camp can only help himself, he cant make Ruiz less tough, less fast, etc. And as AJ really isn't that great, there isn't an X factor to rely on. he has just been the better boxer, way taller, way longer reach so he won against an average lot.
