Back to the topic in hand. The answer to the thread question is not give the election year tax cuts.

I have not seen anybody from Labour actually rule it out?

OMG. Then why start this 18 pages thread, stating "I know labour have said countless times that this will go"

Another 18 pages needed?

Im sure one of the earlier announcements from Labours own "families package" specifically ruled out giving the tax cut. It was used in their calculation of how they were going to pay for it.

Good, there are more pressing matters. But they should adjust the tax thresholds annually based on CPI or a wage index, to avoid threshold creep

Labour halting the April 2018 tax cut IMO is a tax increase.

As far as I understand, its no "more" tax cuts. National is not pulling out of the April 2016 tax cut, Labour if elected will.

That's correct. They possibly want to, hard to know, but would not risk the reaction

Labours Tax Agenda so far:

6th August: Regional Fuel Tax

9th August : Water Tax

15th August: Capital Gains Tax

28th August: Tourism Tax

5th September: Land tax

+ Getting rid of the 1st April 2018 tax cut which is already a done deal.

Still 2 weeks to go frown

Ending secondary tax

No increase in top PAYE tax

No increase in GST

Tax working group to overhaul taxation systems in NZ

Water tax is for a good cause, a lot of that will be paid by foreignors, good for the trade balance

Tourist Tax, there is now one each for Labour and National

Maybe Labour could give us a tax cut then take it away with a GST increase to pay for it as National did in 2010? But keep the GST increase quiet till after the election?
