I thought that this was a pretty well reasoned analysis of just what Winston might be thinking.

That is truly scary!

When he said he wasn't interested in DPM, that's a clear statement (in my Winston Peters mind) that he wants to be PM.

Perhaps some smart dude will offer him the title of puppet PM for 12 months.

And (for me) the real issue is the total lack of actual difference in who you can vote for in NZ...

On international comparisons there are really only thin policy differences between National and Labour (as evidenced by the fact Winston could credibly deal with either). If NZ had a different political tradition, there could even be room for a “grand coalition” excluding NZ First. But Labour and National can’t ignore their tribal differences. They define them and increasingly voters and supporters may be using and exaggerating those differences to define themselves. The way

What will Winston do?    He will negotiate using a mobile phone which is much smaller than the one he used in 1996.     He will come to a decision much quicker than in 1996.

This morning he is warning Nat and Labour to send the right people to HIS talks. Arrogant SOB.

Cuts both ways.

National's Steven Joyce wouldn't confirm or deny whether he was attending the meeting on his way into work on Thursday.

"What meeting would that be?" he asked.

"I hear there's tea-making duties, so maybe I'll go along."

At the end of this process I see a Labour/NZ Green/NZF coalition. I cannot see NZF joining National, just too much bad history. NZ Green campaigned for a change of government and I believe they will stay true to that campaign. I believe there will be a new election by early 2019 when the Labour/NZ Green/NZF coalition falls apart.

Yes, I am losing any respect I may have ever had for this man.

My faith in our democratic system is also diminishing by the day. Maybe I should just not follow the news for a few weeks.

Why would it fall apart? On the negative side, its three parties jockeying for position, on the positive side they just get on with it. If your 2019 prediction came true, Ill buy two or three houses, easy.

What do you suggest?

MMP where all parties get a proportionate say

FPP where one party wins, although these days with many popular small parties, they will govern, but not have a mandate. Take now, Bill is PM. Wants to pass a bill to give a tax cut, and make toilets cleaner, both fail, as only 46% voting rights after all the readings are completed. What then? We have all sorts of negotiations going on. You give me this vote for this bill, I will give you a vote to get River 12B cleaned

Im all ears as to what you feel. You want a democracy, so how do we do that here?
